The other day I went to start my BIS, turned the key and the start motor didn't turn. No clicks, nothing. However all the electrics were working and I had had a good run in it the previous day. I left the car as I was in a rush and tried it when I got home, still nothing.
I have just randomly tried it again and it's all better. :o
Could it be weather/temperature related?

Same happen to me about 4-5 days ago on my Aircooled. I think its a problem related with the solenoid of the starting engine ...

Ours does it sometimes but if i turn it off then back on so the ignition lights are on and leave it for say 5 secs then turn the key too start it works, its done it since i had it and ive never looked into why?

Mine does exactly the same every couple of weeks or so. Turn the key, nothing, key out and in 30 seconds later and fires up. Not investigated further yet, was hoping someone else had...

Did anyone get to the bottom of this?
My BIS stopped doing it, although I replaced the start motor anyway a few months after posting this thread. It's happened a couple of times again in the last week. Yet if I wait a few seconds, maybe a little longer and try again it'll work. Bizarre.

mines got worse now but its my starter motor playing up as i can hear it clicking but just not turning the engine over.

The problem is usually a faulty Solenoid :D costs about 18 quid

I've been having the same issue for about year! I'll do some sanity checks then go for the solenoid, thanks Pete!
