Title: My problematic 126p
Post by: Andreja on September 26, 2015, 09:47:15 PM
Hey, I bought a 1984. Fiat 126p 650e few weeks ago. It is a very wonderful car, driving it is interesting, people are waving, smiling, taking pictures of it... I love it and enjoy it! But...

Until now, I've lost oil cap, my gearbox died (it jumps out from 3rd), I lost my headlights and back position lights. I drained the transmission oil today (altogether 100ml!!!) and I couldn't find where to fill new oil. I tried to find it online but I didn't make it. To lock the car, you have to use passenger's door. Horn is not working, km gauge is not working.

Bodywork... Previous owner painted it to look nice but underneath...  :o It is filled with some foam and then sprayed...

IMPORTANT!!! I am not saying that Fiat 126 is a bad car but my example was neglected.

I have a lot of troubles with it so I put the add online, it is for sale. I can't afford to make a good car out of it, I don't have a garage, tools... But until I sell it, I would like that you people help me to fix it :)

Questions - where to fill transmission oil? How to fix jumping out of third? How to check the electrics? Thank you!

The video is in Serbian but I translated it, click on "CC" :) I recorded it few weeks ago, right after I brought it home.

Ok..

The gearbox has a hollow bolt on the side which you fill it up with gearoil.
As for it jumping from 3rd I'm not sure, I would suggest gearbox mounts but I'm no expert, best person could possibly be Rusty's Uncle.
The electrics could be anything really, depends if there is a break in the wires anywhere or bad earths somewhere etc, I would recommend the Haynes manual and crack on going through the wiring.

Good luck!

Chris

The third gear issue could just be the linkage that needs readjusting. It's done by undoing two 13mm bolts by the gearstick and moving it forward or backwards. The oil I use (and many others too) is good old fashioned 20w50 mineral oil. It has more or less the same thickness properties as the 75w that the manual recommends and is avalible from a lot of auto shops even supermarkets. You'll need 1.1 litres

Hey, it's me again...

I have a problem. I have found a bolt on the right side of gearbox. What's the easiest way to fill it with oil? To open the hood and then put a hose in that hole or what?
