« on: February 10, 2015, 08:21:57 PM »
Hi,

I just got my beauty shipped. Its from 85'

I want to MOT it but I was told that I need to change my headlamps to UK, so I am a bit stuck now

Does anyone knows anything about it? Where can I get those?

Please advice because I cant wait to take it on the road :-D

Thank you

Hi Apyza,  :welcome to the forum, according to the MOT manual [Click HERE] you don't need to change the headlights but you do need to stick beam deflectors on the headlight lens to comply with UK law ;)

Thank you for your reply.
I told the guy in a garage that I am not sure if I need to change them but he doesnt want to do the MOT if I wont.

Bit tricky…:-(

On the link above:

Masks or converter kits may be fitted to right hand dip headlamps to temporarily alter the lamp for use in the UK by removing the beam ‘kick-up’ to the right
.
A headlamp altered in this way is not a reason for rejection,

Thanks guys  :D

Pete I just ot the convertors to get through MOT but long run I would rather buy the headlamps. I had a look and cant really find any fiat126 RHD but found the Yugo 45

Do you think they would fit?

Thank you

Hi, welcome to the club, unfortunately, Lights are one of the 'rare' and more expensive parts of a 126, but yugo lights are supposed to fit, although, not the link above. I Know Bar Vitelli on the forums has some for sale but not sure how much he wants for them. Car looks nice, good luck!

Hi,

My FSM 1991 went through it's mot no problem with the beam benders on. Don't let the garage fob you off. Good luck with registering it in the UK!!!!

Hi,

My LHD Fiat 126 had to have the stickers added to the headlights to pass its MOT.

Welcome to the forum. Nice colour 126 you have there.

If you get stuck with the lights I do have some second hand rhd ones. They are not in great condition, but if you can`t get anything else you can always change the actual glass around.
However as the rest of the guys said, beam deflectors should be good enough for the MOT.

Hi Apyza, I had lots of RHD lights for sale but have sold them all.  I should get some more stock in towards the end of March but in the meantime suggest that you take 1973/126 up on his offer of used ones. Hope that's okay, lovely car and great to see you on the forum!  ;D

Spoke to the garage again and the guy said that he will get it through MOT with the stickers but in order to register it with DVLA I need the lights changed anyway? He said its a different type of MOT.

I am not sure if he knows what he is talking about... ::)

When I called DVLA they never mentioned any alteration or different MOT

Any thoughts?
