'Lucas' The De-Ville
« on: June 06, 2013, 11:01:14 PM »
More an on-going project rather than a restoration really, but thought I would run this thread alongside my other restoration thread.

This is my new 1980 de-ville project. Overall a nice solid car, just needs tidying up in a few places. I intend to tidy it up whilst using it for the shows etc. I couldn't really resist, and have started doing bits to it already!  :$

Carpets removed for washing, and some surface rust located on the floorpan on the drivers side. Also the cracked and crumbling sound proofing removed.

Surface rust wire brushed off.

Main sunroof frame was rotten, and crumbling away. This has been removed and I have a spare one to replace it with.

More updates tomorrow.

Tom,

Your sunroof looks like mine did!

I got a new front frame but it seems way too curved:

picture shows the centre with both ends touching the car roof.

I'm interested to see how you get on.

Looks a good project  ;D

Nick,
I think there must be at least two types of sunroofs. It looks like you have a 500 one, the de ville sunroof is more flat at the front, although im not sure if the de ville sunroof fits the early italian 126 sunroof models either  :( finding one of those for my other project should be fun!

Anyway, today I re-fitted the new front frame to the sunroof after painting, re-rivetted the centre bar back on correctly, painted the interior floor pans and cleaned the carpets, cockpit and hoovered throughout. Its looking a little bit cleaner now.

New front frame painted and fitted to sunroof

Painted the floor pans to prevent further surface rusting

Here is the interior

Dog approves!

Did a bit of work today, I have posted in the other thread but want to keep this thread upto date. Engine mount spring and rubbers changed today. Some more hammerite painted on to help with keeping the rust away, and a bit of tidying under the bonnet.

Put a new exhaust on today, with new gaskets and the correct exhaust bolts which were missing.

Although no holes, looked a bit knackered and the gaskets were shot.

Also replaced the old knackered horn which was embarrasing, and swapped it from a spare lucas horn I had lying around.
