Alloy Wheel Refurbishment and Tyre Choice
Milky:
Hi Folks
Got hold of a set of X1/9 Cromodora alloys, which need refurbishing. Any one got any contacts in this field?
I test fitted the wheels on my BIS, and they fill the rear arches beautifully, but are a bit too big for the front.
The 2 that have tyres, the tyres are shot, and I can't read what size they are.
The wheels are 5J x 13, and I could do with some advice on what size tyres to fit.
I will post some pictures on my website in a day or so of the wheels on the back.
Cheers
Mily

Humm no bigger than 165 with nice low profile i would say. If you have problems with tyres fouling the arches then you can stretch tyres and use lower profile to help get around the problem.

Just had a look, and the tyres on the 2 wheels are 165/70R13, and they foul on the front.
The original tyres are 135/70R13.
Any ideas on what profile 165's would be OK?
I would like to keep the 165/70/R13 on the rear, as they fill the arches perfect.
It would mean carrying a tin of that puncture foam, rather than 2 spare wheels!!
I am a little concerned with the width as well, catching when the wheels are in full lock.
I may try and get a couple of part worn tyres fitted just as a test.
Is there some sort of a formula for calculating the profile of the tyre to make it clear.
Thanks
Milky
ChrisRLewis:
I think the profile ratio is a calculated like this?
example: 165/70x13
165 is the tyre width in mm
70 is the tyre profile in % of the width, so it's 70% of 165 mm
13 is the tyre diameter in good old inches
I cannot guarantee this is correct, just going off memory

i have 5 1/2 j x 13 CD 11 cromodoras on my 650 running 165/55 profile, they JUST touch on the lower part of the front arch SOMETIMES,im living with it..................dunno whats gna happen when it gets lowered though
ALSO,the same profile/width sized tyre can be different between manufactures, the way the shoulder of the tyre is designed can give you more clearence for the same size tyre
