i dont want to paint the engine, just leaving it pure alloy as it came from the factory, the sump, block and head have all been vapour blasted, even the carb manifold,

I'd give it a coat of lacquer if you want it to stay shiney.

lacquer doesnt stick to bare alloy, with the heat it will crack and water will get under the lacquer and make it go white, the best stuff is  ACF-50 spray made for the aero trade now available for the public to buy,
good for alloy wheels too, all i do is wash the engine down with turtle wax 'wash n shine', it leaves a thin protective film when it dries,  ..  even a light spray with 'duck oil' (its better than W.D 40) does the trick and the grime just washes off...

Hmmm... i've been tempted to get my engine vapour blasted... now I think I have to! Did you have the crank out of the block etc and valve springs out of the head while it was done or can it be done with them left in as I wouldn't want the mating surfaces blasted!
