latest restoration details
« on: September 07, 2010, 07:25:38 PM »
Finished waxoyling underneath (2 coats) but when I wire brushed the petrol tank it started to leak so I've taken it off & repaired it inside & out.
I'm painting everything as I take the car to bits!
I've shortened the rear springs by an inch & painted them too.
All brake cylinders were seized (due to standing for ten years) so I've ordered a set & will re assemble brakes at the weekend.
Put two new track rod ends on.
Really enjoying restoring my 126!
Ordered a new set of KN Minator alloys today but could take up to six months before they are available but that's not a problem as it gives me plenty of time to do a good job.

Some more pics from this weekend.
Rebuilt all brakes with new parts & put petrol tank back on. Underside is now finished, looks good & should last many more years.
Starting to do the body now. Grinded out any speck of rust I could find & given several coats of anti rust primer. I'm removing all badges so have filled all badge holes. I'm going to spend some time protecting the arches & similar areas with loads of protective layers before I start to smooth to shape.
I now have a nice solid blank canvas, going to keep it quite original though (just new alloys & de-badge).
I'm considering fitting a large webasto style sunroof.....not decided 100% yet though.
