white paint .
« on: March 23, 2007, 08:33:39 AM »
i have a question about the type of paint used on white cars. i have a 1987 polski fiat 126 , a 1980 italian de ville and a 1991 bis all are white in colour . if i flat the paint down on any one of these cars and apply some spray paint the paint reacts and blisters . i have a 1987 fsm in yellow originally brown if i flat the original paint down and apply some spray paint its fine no reaction i also had no reaction on original silver wheels and also on my old 1989 yellow bis . so why is it all white painted cars react? i am just curious . does anyone have a theory?

I bet it is acrylic as chris says, you can get a paint block to spray on first and then use cellulose etc.

the way i have stopped it reacting is by priming the whole car properly, i can normally flat down and get on with painting after all its only matt paint

ahaa bis if you buy something called barcoat and apply an even coat over the top this stops it reacting and only needs a little flat down unlike primer, you can buy it at most motor factors, also your early aircooled will be acrylic and cellulose doesnt go well with it,but the late aircooled to bis will be solid 2k,i think qoute me someone if am wrong....but cellulose will react with most paints anyway.
hope this helps.......
nice to see your black look back...
