126 Brown
« on: March 25, 2014, 11:22:44 AM »
Hi
Having recently acquired an 84 126 which I'm told is a brown, got me thinking what actually is a 126 Brown?

I've been searching around the internet and from what I can see a 126 Brown is:

A standard 126 finished in Brown paint but featuring:

 - "Brown" decals and pinstripe,
 -  Light brown plastic bumpers and side trim,
 -  Different rear lights with reversing lamps built in,
 -  Light a brown tweed seats with headrests,
 -  Brown carpet.
 -  Opening rear windows.

So could you have non brown "Brown's"? How do you know if you have a Brown or just any old 126 that's had brownness thrust upon it?

Does anyone on here know what the 126 range consisted of? I have heard mention of Personal4, De Ville, Black, Red, and Brown. Is there a hierarchy of models? What is at the top and what is at the bottom?

:D :D
this is brilliant!

try this page (Maybe use google translate)
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_126

special editions are usually more sought after, but the 126 never had a true "limited edition", more like special trims that become run of the mill in typical fiat fashon and sell in large quantities.

Anyway I think the brown color wasn't available in "standard trim" and it's unlikely that someone could have been bothered to brown-ise a standard car (respray, stickers et al)

Only way to be certain is to write to Fiat and check chassis numbers...

Hey, don't you be worrying, Rusty, Personal 4 is the Italian name for DeVille!   ;D

If that's the case then, I don't think my 126 is a true Brown then. There are not enough Brownie points (lol see what I did there) to qualify.

Did all personal 4's come with Sunroofs then? Just trying to work out what I have.

My Haynes arrived today and has been an interesting read, it seems that I have a last of he old school pull start cars with the proper small speedo. However the car seems to have a function that isn't listed in the manual or handbook, in that it has parking lights. If you push the top of the dash mounted light switch down past what you think is the off position just the side lights come on. Does anyone's 126 do that?

I've got new rear wheel bearings ordered up and I'm going to pop in the garage next week for that to get sorted as it really is droning loudly at 40mph. New headlining and some sound proofing is desperately needed before I develop tinitus. Those with original cars can you advise where the sound proofing should be?

Cheers

Matt

Without meaning to make it too confusing, Personal 4 is the name used on the Special Editions as well.

Interesting point about the parking lights, I'll check that out when I get home tonight!

here:

click on "126: the series" and base,Personal and Personal 4

they were 3 levels of trim.
From personal experience at one time the Personal 4 was the only 126 on sale in Italy before the FSM and the BIS.
Most of what remains is 1st gen, Personal 4 and Bis. Very few FSM remain around here. I've never seen a Personal in the flesh...

My 126 says it is a Brown on the log book. It has been resprayed black but was white originally I think. It also has a sunroof but I think this was an aftermarket add on.

This is mine - you can compare and contrast. :)

I believe so. The colour under the carpets is white but it says black as the colour on the V5c.
