Hey Folks!

Ill be updating during these days regarding the restoration of the engine and part of the gearbox.

First of all, just remember that i live in CUBA, where to find a fiat 126 part is pretty damn rare and expensive, even thought i know most of the people that sell this parts, including a Polish guy that came to Cuba many years ago, and lives at Downtown Havana.

So, im making this restoration with many parts that i bought from Piotross and some i founded here in my country.

Just to let you know and get you guys into context, because here in this country Post Offices doesnt work (LITERALLY), i had to send the parts to my sister at Spain from Poland, and she starts to send me little by little every time she can with friends that come to visit Cuba. So you can imagine that i've been waiting for parts during many months, nevertheless i got them here finally!.

The people that are working on this resto are , my father, wich has 30 years of expertise on diesel engines (He is a Mechanical Engineer graduated in the Soviet Union maaaany years ago, he is working on Ships at Dominican Republic right now), My Uncle, wich has a shop to fix cars .. steering, gearbox, engines, etc,and has been a Mechanic for more that 20 years, a friend of us, and me! (no expertise but learning a lot!!).

We removed the engine on Tuesday, and the gearbox yesterday (Wednesday), we removed the Gearbox just to change the axles for new ones and by the way , change the oil and put some seals. The old axles where pretty bad and they were going to screw the Tripods that Piotross send me :)

Engine Mileage Before Full Restoration :
Well, since i bought it , it has been 52000KM (2 Years) , the previous owner drove it for another 50000KM.

Ok, little introduction, here are some photos.

Good luck with the restoration Jorge, you made a good start on the tinware :good: One thing i admire about you guy's in Cuba is that you are quite resilient when it comes to repairing and making replacement parts ;D

Ok here i come with another update of today's (Friday) work!

Well after 1 Hour of uploading photos to Tinypic ..... (30Kbps MODEM! OMG!!!! Yes i know ...)

Today we putted the new axles with the cir clips in the gearbox. We organized all the cables and did a clean up inside the car .. also we putted new headlights! now i can finally drive OK at night time!!!

@Pete126 yes, we have to make "inventions" to live and even more to repair engines in a country where you cannot find nothing !, but with a little bit of luck everything goes smooth as silk :) ..

@Piotross parts were sent to Dominican Republic not to Cuba :D!!! keep in touch will ask for more parts in a little while.

See pics! Engine is almost ready .. so tomorrow i think it will be fitted to the place were it belongs!!

Trying to fit the Giannini Valve Cover (HELL IT WAS A BIG JOB! its not "plug and play" .. as it came it didnt fit so we have to make use of our inventors skills :D)

AXLES FITTED TO THE GEARBOX WITH TRIPODS

ENGINE ALMOST READY

TOMORROW ITS DAY D!!! :)

Cheers to all.

I like the new circlip position instead of the plastic tube to keep the cv's in place. I think I will adopt this when fitting my next set of cv's. Looking good.

Good work AvB 8) I love the fact you can just dry painted bits outside. It looks lovely and warm there.
Also I can`t believe the mileage you`ve done in your car over two years. It just shows you how capable these little engines are if they looked after.
