Teardrop Trailer, mini caravan New just 250kg
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:16:48 PM »
I wonder whether the 126 is strong enough to pull this light trailer which is 250kg.

From the book "Driving Polski FIAT 126p" (Warszawa, 1982):

The trailer's total weight, without breaking system, can't be more than 50% of the weight of the car itself - 300kg. With breaking system it can be max. 400kg.

With caravan - top speed a bit more than 70km/h, fuel consumption with 30-40% more depending on caravan type.

If bad weather or slight climbing should run on 3-th gear.

 :)

Polish Niewladow trailers were made specially for 126. Try googling. I think they're nearly 300 kgs.

Edit: Niewiadow.

Hi Ralph,
That brings back some memories of a very wet weekend in Belgium- that Red Steyr Puch with Caravan was following me over the Swiss Alps and staying on my tail without any obvious effort!
I see you have caught my red 500 in the background of the first pic! What 500 were you driving? I might have some pics of your car too...

I would love to buy one. It must be quite a challenge for the car to maintain speed uphill on a motorway. It can sometimes be challenging as it is now without a trailer.

I had one of these and so wish I haven`t sold it. We never got to tow it with a 126 thought.
The best place to buy one would be Poland.
There is a modern equivalent of it called Freedom Microlite, but these are a bit more heavy as they`ve got more kit. They come up on eBay time to time for around £1000.
I saw an advert for one of these recently in one of the classic car papers. If anyone wants the details let me know and I have a look for it.

The old teardrop trailers look better than the new ones. I wonder whether one can buy one cheaply second hand in Poland.
