It's main use was in the police and popular with farmers as so many farmers were killed by land mines.

I remember they had a VW engine and went well, air cooled engines were considered to be better suited to handling srapnel, the tactic was to attack after the mine went off so air cooled gave better chance to get away and armour plating stopped AK fire, saved a few lives but hairy cornering. Storys of Leopards limping home with 3 wheels and severly damaged engines were common. Fortunately that's all history now  ;)

It was built in the late 50's , its NOT american but was built with them in mind. It uses the Austin A55 1.5 litre engine. The A55 also provided the transmission and suspension, due to the rear wheels being shrouded by body panels the rear wheels cannot be removed without dropping its axle.
