What's the fastest...
« on: June 11, 2015, 06:48:57 PM »
...anyone has ever gone in a Fiat 126?

I did 76mph downhill in my 594cc green car once and although it is not to be condoned it was brilliant.  A car got in my way otherwise I reckon I could have got to 84 mph.  Trouble was I dare not overtake as every panel was shaking!

What's the record? I know that's not a question for the purists but I reckon I can take it in my Silver over a downhill metric mile as I race past Rusty in his jalopy...   ;D

On a long down hill stretch of the A3 yesterday I opened the bis right up to find out.
It's a completely standard engine wheels tyres etc. Closed all windows for best aero!
Going down the hill...
70mph on gps read 75mph on the speedo
75mph on the gps read 80mph on the speedo.
At 78mph on the gps the speedo read 83mph and got stuck.
The car maxed out at 80mph on the gps with the speedo still stuck at 83.

Naturally, none of this should be condoned, but I am impressed!

Had a lovely couple of 126 days recently.  I was supposed to have a hideous 14 hour day travelling to Chester and back on the train for a meeting.  The train was cancelled so did the 150 mile round trip in my rusty red 1973 126. Overtook a lorry and a car on the way! Honestly the car chugs when it does 100m so to go the distance, the longest I have ever travelled in a 126 was amazing. I'm so proud of it.

Washing machine broke today. Got a plumber out. He was Italian and called out 2 low mileage cars that he knew of locally. I reckon there must be loads of our 126s hidden away across the country.  I'm so happy, having a glass of Vino all Mandorla to celebrate. With some amaretti. Our cars are the best!

Planning a 126 party for late August in Halifax - shout out if anyone is interested.

Only criteria is to bring your car!  ;D

Yes today I might have hit over 80 a couple of times on the "private" motorway downhill lol. But uphill I think 65mph is about as far as it wants to go even foot to the floor with the standard breathing. My speedo is 100% accurate with gps it seems so I need to be careful :).

i have had 90mph on the gps going down a fiarly steep hill with a standard engine and 75mph on the flat on the spedo with the standard engine. but my car is not standard anymore so it can do more when i finnish building it so from now on it can't count i gess.

best person to ask is smallcox (steve). i would be intreasted in that answer.
