Due to gearbox oil in the bellhousing I decided to take it off the gearbox as I could not remove the release bearing sleeve. The seal and the bronze bushing had both come adrift, which explains the rattling noise and vibration.
The input shaft fits into the actual gearbox with a sleeve arrangement held with a very flimsy looking wire clip and somwhere a steel pin. My question is - should there be play in this connection? I can wobble the input shaft about quite a bit. This is a Bis gearbox - I am not sure if aircooled use the same or similiar.
