I have tried various methods to make side nets and this has proved successful. You will need to weld two heavy metal hooks to the frame.
| Basic ingredients are 6 mm aluminum tube 4 off , strong cord 3 off , Wood glue (PVA) and hose clips all available from your local B&Q | |
| The Aluminum tube protects the cord around the fixings. Bend to fit along the top of the frames and cut to size along the bottom. Position the top tube midway on the Blitz frame to allow adjustment either way. Deburr carefully. Then thread and loop the cord to make an outer loop. Important: Pull the cord tight within the tube and knot it at each end . Then bond with epoxy resin. This will stop the cord from chafing. Leave the vertical sections a little loose. The main load should take place on the inner vertical lines. | |
| Thread vertical cords down at about 3" intervals and tie to the aluminum tubes. These should be marginally tighter than the two outer lines. Then tie horizontal lines across using simple granny knots and double knots at the ends. These can then be moved a little to keep the net to shape. Once you are happy with the shape an tension, apply wood glue to all the knots. The cord will shrink slightly as the glue dries. | |
| Finally trim and burn all the cord ends to seal them. Adjust the net tension so its natural elasticity holds the net in the side hooks, but can be unhooked as required. | ![]() |
