126p 2000 year "Happy End" - Italian license

A "Happy End" with Italian license plates. Is this possible? Surely the Italians have the same  or similar emission tests like the UK. Same emission requirements EU wide?

Hi,
I have a happy end which I'm in the process of registering and this has worried me quite a bit, what is the case with the emissions bit, does it need to pass some kind of test?
Kind Regards
Luca

Emissions are tested as part of the standard UK MOT test (which of course you’ll need to pass before applying for UK registration).

The test requirements are based on when the car was first used (unless the engine has been changed for an older type).

Assuming the car was first used around 2000/2001, the test requirements are that:-

- the CO content at idle must be no more than 0.5% by volume and at raised engine speed (2,500-3,000rpm) no more than 0.3%

- the hydrocarbon content at raised engine speed must be no more than 0.02% (200ppm)

- the lambda value (ie the ratio of mass of air to mass of fuel divided by 14.7) at raised engine speed must be 1 (give or take 0.03)

There’s no reason in principle why a late 126 with a two-way cat can’t pass the test - a two-way cat deals with CO and HC content, a three way CAT also deals with NOx but that isn’t part of the emissions test.

The main issue under the earlier threads is that importing cars under 10 years old without EU type approval needed a separate type approval test before they could be registered here and that required a three-way CAT to be fitted.
