How to get oil filler plug off 126p gearbox
« on: July 27, 2020, 05:53:06 AM »
Hi,
Does any have experience of removing the plug on the gearbox of an air cooled 126p? What size / type of socket is needed as the head on the plug is square and 13mm across the flats. Tried using a normal hex socket but the plug is stuck tight and i didnt want to strip the corners off that square head.
Any advice welcome, cheers

When I had to remove my filler plug off I used the square end of a half inch socket, it's a good fit so hopefully won't strip the head. I don't think my plug had been removed in a long time and I found a couple of gentle taps and actually slightly tightening it before loosening helped remove it. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks Chris and Macmonkey,
I'll give the square end of the extension bar a go.

These old 1/2" wrenches are excellent for this type of job.
