C02 Emissions
« on: January 10, 2018, 03:41:02 PM »
Hi all, I'm looking at importing a 1995 Polish 126 into Ireland. Imported cars are taxed on the basis of C02 emissions but i can't find a reliable figure for the 126 anywhere. Does anyone here know what the correct figure is? If I can't find it I think the car gets taxed at the max rate which will cost me €720!

I couldn't find a figure, but I did find a calculation based on an engine's mpg.

Divide 6760 by x where x is your mpg (imperial) = g/km

In the BIS sales catalog, Fiat compares the BIS engine against the previous aircooled engine. Fiat claims the aircooled engine did:
Urban - 41.5mpg
Motorway - 52.3mpg
Combined - 46.9mpg

So that would be...

Urban = 162.89 g/km
Motorway = 129.25 g/km
Combined = 144.13 g/km

Ofcourse, this doesn't prove on paper to the Irish authorities the car's emissions, sorry!
Perhaps you could ask a garage to run a test of some sort and write down the result on headed paper.

Don’t worry - second hand cars imported into Ireland which were first registered abroad before 2008 are taxed according to engine size, so you’d be in the lowest bracket (0-1000cc, €199 per year).

Thanks for the replies, there seems to be conflicting info out there as to how VRT is calculated on pre 2008 cars. The revenue website says nothing about the cc system but other places mention it. I think i'll just have to give them a ring and see myself
