help hazard warning light and horn issue
« on: August 03, 2017, 06:34:02 PM »
Hi,

please if anyone has any suggestions

have fiat 126 bis from 1989 it was due its mot on monday, it is currently on a sorn so has not been driven much

got the car out on sunday and checked things lights etc

one rear indicator light not working so got a new bulb and changed this

horn and hazard warning lights not working also interior light on mirror not working

got horn taken off car and checked and it worked

replaced fuse for hazard warning lights and horn and swapped around relays and as soon as i did this the interior light worked

if i turn ignition on and press horn no sound, with ignition off no horn also

if i turn ignition on and try to turn hazard warning lights on the fuse blows straight away

didn't know if it may be due to the relays so swapped those round , once i did this the interior light came back on

don't know if i should purchase another relay and take the original horn relay out or do you think it may be a short somewhere

not in a rush to fix as car is currently sorn could get my local autoelectric mechanic to come and check but just wondered if anyone had any ideas

thanks

hi,

have rotated relays round and interior light works so don't think it has anything to do with these 2 relays

if I put the ignition key in and turn it i hear a click this happens before i turn the key fully to light up the dashboard

Hi Zola

quote 'if i turn ignition on and try to turn hazard warning lights on the fuse blows straight away'

am assuming turning switch on blows fuse
re check bulb position,  and check all lights for corrosion on contacts and for wire rubbing against metal causing a short.

the horn is in the steering wheel? wonder if you or your electrical person should look closer to how the horn button works. check if power is at the horn button.
perhaps a button spring is broken, or a wire has come adrift, causing a short.

hope find the problem easily

Also check the hazard flasher unit. It’s the big box right by the wiper motor linkage. It could be faulty and the horn may well use the same circuit. The horn, just like the hazards should work without the ignition on

hi thanks for your replies

i have just replaced the fuse for the hazard warning light and the interior light works

i did not turn the ignition on but turned the hazard warning lights on and they worked for about a second before the fuse blew

I would start by looking at the wires and then the hazard switch.
unclip hazard switch from wires keeping them away from metal replace fuse. and see if blows again.
happy Thanks giving

hi,

just an update

took hazard flasher unit out

can you test this without it being in the car?

also opened horn and put it back on steering wheel and it works now

not sure if this is because the hazard unit is out of the way or because metal onnections weren't touching properly last time I tested

i think i will put the flasher unit back in and see what happens - hopefully i connect it up right as i didnt label the wires

do you know where i could buy a replacemnt unit if it is this  cheapest I have seen on ebay £40

Hi,

I have a Fiat 126 EL from 1998. My turning lights are not working.

Is this the hazard flasher unit mentioned above by Gadge?

Where can I buy one? I do not find anything on the internet. Can you please help me? I also created a separate post on the forum regarding this.

Thank you!
