Wide body kit
« on: February 08, 2016, 11:29:59 PM »
Hiya, could anyone please tell me if this kit will fit my 126 bis ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311544039107?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The seller said he thinks it will and would give me a refund if it didn't but i'd rather
know before i buy it.
Also has Anyone used one on their aircooled ? What is the quality like ?

 Thanks in advance.

Hi, I bought a set some months back for my air cooled. i have only had a trial fit and they fit reasonably well, as with all these things some fettling is required to get the fit you want.  As the air cooled and bis are essentially the same body shape I.e. Corner panels I don't see any problem fitting to you bis. There is another member who I believe has them on his air cooled, he posted some photos of a trial fits few months back.

Thanks for the reply mate,
i thought they should be ok but just wanted to check.
How much extra width did you gain on the rear wheel arch ? My wheels stick out
about 4"

Thanks again

The only thing that confuses me about these arches are how you would integrate the inner arches to the wider wing? How would the gap get filled? You can't weld new metal in as they are fibre glass (unless maybe you weld a spacer to arch and used a bonding agent to stick it to the wider arch) it would be interesting to see some photos of your progress  ;D

Hi, sorry this is'nt my car. I found a couple of photographs online when I was researching these arches. It looks like an extra 75mm ish in additional width. I am in the process of building a garage to allow me to build/repair my cars.  When I start the build I will post progress photos. I will be welding in a new section in the inner wing to extend out to the new arch, this should allow for the wheel movement and stiffen the edge.

Thanks again mate. If that is the same kit then i think it might just cover my set up.

Gadge, i was hoping to do just what you said. Fit the arch kit then make an infill piece
to bridge the gap. I think it could even be left open as it wont be seen and any water
spray off the tyres would just run out anyway.

Looks like these will be the way to go, just need to get sum funds together  ;)
