Car Craft Zero
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:00:16 PM »
 So here we go again.
I never really been one for kit cars and didn`t really like the design of the CCZero that much, but after seeing one in real life I started to come round. What sold it to me was the weight of it when the 126Fan guys put up a figure of 426kg. I thought this is the way to go when you have such limited amount of power.
I started to work out some power to weight ratios compared to a standard air cooled.
 126-24hp-600kgs=40hp/1ton
 CCZ-24hp-426kgs=56.3hp/1ton
Basicly if I worked it out right it would mean in a standard car you would need 33.78hp to have the same power to weight ratio?
Anyway I was after this car for some time now and had sell one of my cars to secure it, but I finally got it home. Happy days! I absolutely love it. It looks pretty decent from the outside, but it`ll need a fair amount of work as it`s been of road for some time.
I already removed the dummy grille as it wasn`t original and was ugly as ... I do quiet like without it.
There was only 21 of these made. This one is number 19 and the 126Fan guys got number 20 ;D
The reviews from back in the days are actually very good and the kit car mags rated it highly.
Here is a link to some photos for now.

Looks cool :)
I'm not sure I like the front, think it could do with a more aggressive front end to match the squared off back end but that's just my opinion ;)

Nice looking car! The fit and finish look better than other kit cars. The front reminds me a bit of a 2CV. Is it expensive to MoT and insure? I heard that kit cars go through a different MoT process.

Is that the BIS in the background that was wedged-in that I thought 'how the hell is he going to get that out of there'?

Hey never seen one other than pictures of the CCZ, it must be very rare now. It'd look wicked with some alloys etc, what the heck, looks like fun  ;D

I was lucky enough to get to see this earlier this week....it looks amazing (the pictures don't do it justice) and with a polish and a bit of an engine boost it should be a truly amazing car!

I`m not sure about what wheels I`m gonna put on it, but I`m not a big fan of them wire wheels. I`ll probably try to get some period lightweight 13" Cromodoras for it, as I`m now considering disc brakes on the front. It`ll also get a bis gearbox, uprated shocks and at some point the engine out of my "rally 126" which has got a claimed output of 41hp. That might be a bit optimistic, but anything over 30hp I`ll be happy.
The color will probably stay as it is for now, and at some point in the future it`ll get a respray. Not sure in what color yet. Any ideas?
The MOT shouldn`t be a problem as it`s already registered, but I`m dreading the insurance quotes already.
Darrell the bis is still in the garden :$

If you're considering a respray I vote for Sprint Blue

So I finally started work on the CCZero. It`s only in a stage of stripping everything at the moment.
Engine, gearbox, wiring all out. I`ll probably use a different wiring loom as the one in the car was all bodged.
Looks like I`ll need a new fuel tank as well, as the original one is badly rusted inside, so I`ll probably go for some sort of an alloy tank. It lives in the front and is nothing like the standard one.
I`ll start on refurbishing all the underside, it`ll get new wheel bearings, king pins, brakes, basically everything.
Already got few sets of wheels lined up and few tuning bits, nothing special for now:)
 More updates coming soon, hopefully...
