Title: a stooopid qustion
Post by: 126dave on January 28, 2009, 06:54:08 AM
well, it might be , does anyone know if the myriad of intercooler radiators that are availible can be used as a radiator supplement? to me they look like mini radiators, ive never dabbled with them though.

im looking at introducing an under car extra cooling radiator, like the abarth 600/850's used, these were long and thin, mounted just below and in front of the gearbox, and plumbed into the normal radiator...ive seen some long thin intercooler radiators here, i was wondering if thay can be used?

if this is possible it might be a good addition for the bis as well?

mick and nigel, you are using front mounted radiators?, have you/are you adding extra pumps in or relying on syphon and the normal water pump??

answers on the back of a fiver to the usual address..... 8)

well an electric pump from a kit car suppliers is one option to beef up the system but to be honest the general norm is that the pump does the job quiet well as it is . dont forget the piping is quiet thin from front to back and not like a main drain!lol

as for the intercooler question the best thing is to consult the dealer they are the experts i suppose.

Hi Dave

Hope you are well

Don't know much about intercoolers but having a custom built radiator is not particularly expensive or they are available off the shelf for frront mounting on the 600.

I have a radiator in the front of my 500 along with an electric fan this uses the standard pump to push the water around. In the UK it works just fine because the weather never gets too hot, but on the hottest days in Italy it was running a walm (but still OK) I have thought about an electric pump but will see how hot the new race spec engine runs once the car is back together.

ok, thanks guys, im just checking out my options, the rear engined fiats run hot here, and as the car will be down to the bare bodyshell im looking into some extra cooling ideas, i dont really want to alter the nose of the car as its so attractive as is..
I might remove the engine driven fan and replace that with a powerfull electric one to start with....

thanks again, ive got plenty to do before i decide whats what .

Can't see why not Dave, if you can find out what air pressure its tested to. another option is using a heater matrix :D
