Selling advice
« on: April 09, 2011, 09:21:37 PM »
Having posted my two cars for sale here and locally, I'm having no nibbles and I just want to guage opinion on how folk feel regarding the market for selling at the moment.

I had thought that prices might have risen a little since I bought the car a few years ago, say 5 years ago, do you think this may be so?

Are people finding that folk are being put off buying at the moment due to the recession?

Is the lack of an MOT really a big turn off for someone looking for a reasonable example?

Would I be best advised to just stick it on ebay and hope for the best?

Would I be best advised to sell the cars seperately?

I'm really just looking for some opinions on this, what would you look for particularly if you have a budget idea in mind?

Or any comments?

Prices are up but not as high as a few months back. too many LHD Polish cars on Polish plates keep prices down.
Some total rubbish has been sold recently for silly money though. Cars with MOT will always sell for more.
Aircooled are always more expensive than Bis although many people won't know the difference.

Don't remember how much you were asking, but Ebay is the place to sell, as more people will see the sale. Be honest Plenty of Pictures.

Sell the cars separately. Always get more.

Rotten Air-cooled sold for £380 recently, Very rotten.

location is important too, Most people don't want to travel, but plenty of firms will transport for about £1-£1.50 a mile (Shipley.com), I have used the service never any problems at all. Worth a mention on your listing.

Good luck with the sale.

hi Elbisto,

i chose not to go via ebay with my sale although it can give you a big audience especially if someone has a 'saved' search set up...i always find ebay prices so hit and miss and would never rely on it for an accurate guide for pricing our cars because of variables.. (i suppose it depends what you're selling in general and when!)

Positives..ie: 2 bidders trying to outbid each other can inflate your price, 126's are rare now so can help generally,(only 2 on autotrader this week, 1 more than last week!!) ..guessing most people would still prefer rhd to the lhd's being offered.

Negatives: time of month of listing in relation to some peoples' pay day (if monthly and relying on their wage to buy) people missing the end of the auction for lots of reasons, bidders changing their minds and not even coming to look at the car/timewasters, if you start at 99p with no reserve it could backfire. (I always end my auctions on a sunday night.)

I do a lot of buying/selling on ebay of specialist 50's items and this past year has definately been down pricewise in the pieces i deal in (don't know if cars are down generally,possibly)..location can lose you a few bidders too but as said before shipping is an option..(i had a mail from Hong Kong!)

MOT definately helps 90% of buyers i guess..and would sell seperately,i don't think you're asking too much,  i didn't get the buying interest i expected via the club (great comments though!)  but i was asking a lot more money!  good luck.. Brett
