Hi. if you have set up the timing using the static method and are happy. Try the idle screw on the choke linkage. Screw in until it ticks over smoothly. Simon.

the car looks great.
your issue with the carb is probably not the fact that the carb needs setting up because if it runs fine on idle when not being driven then its probably your transfer and/or idle jet blocked. just clean the carb and you will probably be fine.

if not probably the first thing to check is if its got any vacuumb leaks.

hopefully you manage to sort it i don't know the bis engines because i have always had the aircooled engines.

I've not done anything yet, how do I setup timing? Are there any detailed instructions for people like me that don't know much about engines? :)

Try Haynes manuals, I think somebody found it all online, can't remember where it is now but sure it's somewhere, or just make a cheap purchase think mine was less than £5 delivered and its brand new, and came in 2 days, hope you get it sorted

I can't seem to find one for a 1988 Bis water cooled. :(

Now got a problem with the wipers, I drove into Sheffield to pick the girlfriend up and the wipes stopped working (front and back). Checked all the fuses and they're okay, not sure where to check next because it's both failed. Any ideas?

Also, quick video of idle now with idle speed adjusted so I can put choke all the way off. :)

Take the two screws out of the dummy air grill on the front scuttle, passenger side and you should see the wire and connector that goes into the motor, check the contacts aren't burnt or dirty ;)

My guess is the same as petes if their both not working and the fueses are ok then it must be one of the connectors joining the two up from the fuse box. There a bunch of them by the front wiper motor as pete says.

As for manuals on the BIS haynes never made one for it only the aircooled however it's worth buying an air cooled haynes as may items are the same such as suspension, gearbox and electrics. Factory BIS manuals are available on CD though  :)

Bet your missus was well impressed  ;D

Ahh yeah, I found that the earlier model for bis the exact same, everything I've needed out of it has been identical to what's in book

Slight change on plan...

Now sorned.  Mainly due to me rushing to get it on the road, and not realising that it isn't a winter car!

The restoration & strip and rebuild will begin a lot sooner than imagined, stay tuned... :thumb: :slayer: :D

They get some getting used to don't they :D mine currently off the road for almost the same reason - gives you plenty of time to sort out the problems ready for show season :D
