Odor of fuel after engine switch off
« on: May 12, 2019, 07:44:12 PM »
Hi guys
I have a 126 fsm air cooled yom 1987.
I have been noticing, after I switch off the engine, a smell petrol. However upon start up & running there is no smell. I am unable to find any leaked petrol, though sometimes find the plate under the carb with some fuel.
Any suggestions what this could be? I use unleaded petrol 95RON with lead substitute.
Many thanks
neville

First check would be to check the float in the carburettor and make sure that it is not punctured, then check the float needle valve and float are in tolerance.

How old are your fuel hoses? they might be worn or not fitted properly?

  • It's not the carb size that matters, it's the jet

No need for lead substitute btw, 98 would be better anyway.

Your right there. Main Fuel pump hose which connects to carb is a favourite.
