Title: 123 ignition
Post by: bis13 on August 08, 2007, 07:11:55 AM
stuck a 123 ignition on my old banger and so far top end is better but acceleration is slower than before and its a bit eratic at low revs but i am having problems with overfueling so that is probably the main cause . when ticking over the engine sounds much better , i shall see how it fares when i go to retro rides , i have all the old dizzy , coil , leads in the trunk just in case.... :)

i was having a look at the 123 ignition, sounds like a nice plan.
From what i gather it has 16 mappable positions presumably to account for the variety of cams available for the car as there is no adjustment on the actual unit. Is it possible that it needs to be moved to a different setting to account for any engine wear which is normally absorbed by the adjustment of the points?

Yo Mick,
How is the 123 ignition treating you now that you have been using it for a while? Is it worth it?

its running fine , the only critisism is the adjuster is deeply set into the unit and is very small and is quite difficult to get into the correct position ,i need the aid of a torch to get enough light into it to see properly, plus you have to get your head right into the engine bay in order to look at it. apart from that it runs great. its something that is seen as either an aid or uneccesary it depends how you see it as to whether you buy one , dave has one as well try asking him how it behaves with the panda head/ cam upgrade etc.

be carefull as on ebay there is a 123 advertised with coil for 180 notes.. the catch is the photo shows a complete coil in one shot then the next two are of the top only , this can be bought and the original dizzy converted . but at 180 quid its a proper rip off . not suprising its that chet seven bod whos trying to pull a fast one . you could of course buy the engine and gearbox (abarth ha ha ha ) for only £1400 !!!!!! or go to kraut bay and get it for £500 ish notes!!! the choice is yours if you go for the earlier i have a dizzy cap (abarth) for sale for a mere £ 80.99 (with free postage).......

Up...

I just bought a 'secundo mano' one. Not the classic look with the cap but the one looking like a tin wiht Italian flag on it.
I wonder what difference the 1.2.3 will bring. Some tell me that it is a waist of money some say its good to have. Waist of money because once the original is mounted and clocked right it is as good as with a 1.2.3. On the otherhand, there are no more rotating parts. So this can't worn out.

So what are your opinions?

ps: And I spotted a STEALTH ignition module as well. Lots cheaper. Will that do the same trick? Anyone experience with this module?
