Not running smooth at and above 70km/h [SOLVED]
« on: September 26, 2019, 03:13:21 PM »
Hi fellows:

The Polski (aircooled) is not running smooth at and above 70km/h. I've noticed that when I change from 2nd to 3rd gear, if I do it faster than usual, the engine does like is running out of gas for a sec, but immediately  it recovers. Above 70km/h, the engine is like missing sparks, so it is not running smooth. If I accelerate further, it gets worse and start feeling like jumping. I've been suspecting of air in the gas lines, but yesterday I changed to an electric one. I have to say that now it goes a little better, and since my hoses are new (transparent silicon) I don't see any air on them.

So... I don't know where to start looking:
- Spark plugs
- Anything inside the distributor
- TIming
- Carb

Any suggestions?

All the best!

Solved!

I gave my carburetor a deep clean, following this guide:

http://club126uk.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=11723.0

Now it goes up in 3rd to 60km/h without a hitch, and in 4th goes up to 80km/h really nice!

I'm very happy with the result.

Even better, I also set the timing following this video:

From 7:27. It worked with my aircooled, classic ignition. This lamp trick is amazing!

Good to hear. Have the same issue so am doing a full teardown of engine and carb at the moment. My carbs butterfly valves for the secondary intet gets stuck also, causing it to idle at 2000rpm :)

For anyone refurbishing their carb, I can recommmend a soda blaster
