Just drove my first Niki
« on: January 15, 2006, 07:16:01 AM »
the guy just brought the car around for me to see.
got some rust in the bottom of the nose cose other than that its pretty straight, engine runs allright etc, not as slow as i expected.
very small, fun for me as i am almost 6' 2".

the gears are funny, but i will get used to them, becuse they are a linkage system they arent as direct as im used to..

i've put a bid on it for $951 and it ends in a few hours.

Can't wait :)

yeah i think ill need a bit of luck getting used to it haha

hey if i got a new gear linkage would it make the gear positions more defined? im thinking that maybe the linkage in there is worn which would explain why the gears are somewhat difficult to locate..

hi android
it's worth checking the rubber linkage connection for wear also the bolts sometime come loose!

superb diagram Chris!

might be worth us all checking the gear box's, my gear box has a small rattle, but i think its a chracteristic, it comes from below the gear stick, the gear sticks are quite long, so probably all move around a little.

welcome to the forum Android.

regards

Hello chap's the gear change is like a wooden spoon in a bowl of porridge (to the novice) but when you get used to it it's quite slick(well I think so)

panda gearbox is dreadful, i honestly think the 126 box is easy and pleasant to use, never found it awkward on any ive driven.

quite shocked at that, the latter models have a 5th gear or did they all?

is the panda generaly not as nice to drive? or the contrary?

my panda is a 5 speed box, its really notchy and vague, as they all seem to be... generally I much prefer the 126 to drive, the Panda is not as solid feeling, doesnt hold the road as well, is noisier but obviously more spacious.. but.. I love them for that, very basic and really fun.

ok i took delivery this arvo so ive had a proper look.., its basically impossible to get this thing in reverse!

correct me if i am wrong, but there is a small metal bracket to the right that should stop you going in reverse unless you push down on the gearstick.

when i push down the stick and put it in its right-most position i always get fourth!

i am thinking that maybe an engine mount has sagged therefore putting the whole thing on an angle which makes the gear stick hit the bracket before it can get across enough to reverse..

the linkage and everything seems ok..

maybe i just need to chop off the bracket and be careful not to go in reverse :p

Right there fella, don't panic, check the two mount's at the gearbox (rectangular block's) they could be bust,or the rubber mount on the rod (as illustrsted earlier) these can become dosed with oil contamination. This might sound mad but if you send me a private message I'll send you my number and you can give me a buzz :D

ive taken a look and the two mounts and the rubber on the linkage seem fine!

the engine does move around when u change gears tho, so maybe they have just gotten too soft?

the engine should have side mounts instead of just the one on the front i reckon.. oh well..
