It cut out when it got too hot, Pete, so I had to let it cool down each time. We’ve done a long list of things to try and sort it, new coil, condensor, HT leads, points, thermostat, carburettor, fuel pump, oil, spark plugs, reset the timing and checked the valve clearances all to no avail. It’s probably something really silly that we are missing so I’m hoping that a specialist can finally get it sorted.

I managed to find a cheap Panda 30 head at last... so I went and visited my 126 and looked, then came home again.

Did you fit a ballast resistor with tour new coil? If not, it will get too warm and cut out after a while!

Might be your issue?

Thanks, two other people have also mentioned a ballast resisitor to me, looks like I need to give it a try!

Let us know. Your new coil might be ruined by now though, so you might need to replace it again too.

Well, that didn’t work, I’ve pushed it to the back of the shed until I can take it to a specialist. 😞

Have you checked the tension on the fan belt? Also check that the fan itself isn't loose by holding the front pulley and see if you can move rotate the cooling fan,  if it does the fan will still rotate but start slipping as the revs increase which would cause over heating, just a thought.

Thanks, Pete, we’ve checked that, the fan side of the engine is nice and cool but the heat coming out of the other side seems unusually high even with the thermostat flap fully open. We’ve checked a long list if things so it’s either something really silly or something that we’ve not checked correctly.

Bought  and fitted a fire extinguisher. Hopefully will never have to use it. No drilling for bracket, just a tight fit under the seat crossbar. :)

£16 a month ago, but looks like its shot up in price since :o

Put the Bis cooling system back together with the stupidly expensive new alloy hose union, new jubilee clips all round and now minus the thermostat.  Flushed the system through twice with central heating system cleaner (much cheaper and I had some) and refilled with 50/50 antifreeze.  Now having a well earned cuppa and thinking about the next job on the list ...
