I have changed loads of head gaskets from single cylinder whizz pops to  Detroit 2 stroke twin turbo supercharged V8 s and never had this problem before

I stand by my diagnosis of cheap crappy gasket made of Dairylea CHEESE  ;D

On a more serious note I am going to machine a new set of head washers with a recess to accommodate a O-Ring which should eliminate any chance of water creeping up and around the head studs and into the rocker cover

I drive a BIS, and the handbook mentions you get a free service coupon then lists what is included in that service. Notably the first item is "cylinder head bolt torque".
The service should be done "after 600-900 miles".

I have never had the head off my Bis, but last time I had the rocker cover off to check the valve clearances I decided to check the head bolt tightness.

All bolts needed a quarter turn at least to make the torque wrench click. My car has 60,000 miles on.

the rear panel of a BIS and the absolute pain it is to put it back on. Particularly the nuts on the radiator side.

Why couldn't they mount it some other place, bah.
