To be honest I don`t know where people get these crazy prices from. There haven`t actually been that many cars selling over 2k apart from some early Italian examples.
That dodgy Bambino is no indicator of anything. It has been up for sale about 4 times now in the last month or so. I would think there is some "dodgy" bidding going on there.
What people advertise the cars for and what they actually sell for is a different story.
I could put my car up for sale for 5k if I like, doesn`t mean anything.

Been watching prices for a while, I reckon  3.500 is sensible for a concours car, 2.500 for a good one that could do with improvement, 1.500 for  something solid and fairly reliable.

I am talking about early Italian, RHD cars with full mot here. I reckon the BIS is probably £750-1000 cheaper across the board.

For some reason, people seem to think their cars are worth far more than they are! I do not know where people are getting their crazy prizes from!

There is not a 126 in the land that is worth £2,000 or over unless it is an early italian aircooled, and its in really good condition. Cars like greenfly are an exception obviously.

For a really nice later model, really good condition BIS or similair anything over £1,500 is madness.

and as for polish ones.......don't get me started.

My car is fairly rare now, but in its current condition probably wouldnt even be worth £800.

Rant over.

Something is worth what someone is willing to pay. 126's have been making good money lately.

Anything rare is worth money, and 126's are becoming rarer every day. I had 3 serious offers on my BIS when I advertised it on a classic car website at £2750!

I would not be surprised to see standard, good condition, RHD, early (1970's) air cooleds to be regularly selling for over £5,000 in a couple of years time...

Like Draigflag, I've had some tempting offers on my own cars...I bought one last year for a ''crazy price'' and was offered £1,000 more than I paid within a day.  It's not for sale though, which in itself seems to push the price up!?!  Put simply, they are amazing cars and with the abundance of (cheaper) spare parts they are a much more affordable option than the Fiat 500s and even more fun!

Exactly! I am just starting the restoration of mine, I know I will spend far more than what its technically  worth or probably ever will be but that's cars for you, I've already spent more on parts this year than I paid for the car in 2007. I could scrap it and buy a better one for less but that would be one less DeVille on the road.

It's about the emotion of them and special vehicles generally, just look at restorations like Tate is doing he is going to have great memories of his hard work and have a really enjoyable car to drive at the end of it.

I think I've gone off subject but hey ho!

Absolutely. And for people like me who know nothing about engines etc., you are learning how things work and so forth while bringing them back to life. That's something money can't buy, especially when you're having fun in the process!

I do remember when I first joined the forum a few years ago, aircooled cars with tax and test were going for £500-£600.

I know people say cars are worth as much as people are willing to pay, but what I am referring to are people who are over valuing their cars by a huge margin, especially all of these projects on ebay. It wouldnt be so bad if they were all running with tax and mot.

Anyway, im not in the market for another 126, ive barely got much done on my current one!  :$

Anyone notice that one on eBay? Looks like greenflys, same green and just 10k on the clock. Was on eBay last week and reached £5900 but the reserve was not met!

Tom , some of us are old enough to remember when the cars were being given away or selling for £5 :o I can also remember having a lot of chat with the owner of "Greenfly" around the time he turned up at the Auto Italia , Stamford Hall event and telling him that he was stupid for thinking of selling the car for less than £4,000. Short of an exceptional rare find I think that car will remain the most original and most excellent early RHD example of a Fiat 126. But hats off to you guys that are doing a resto on whatever model or are just carrying on driving the little beasts  :D
