Sounds like a clutch or gearbox problem or possibly a driveshaft?
Any strange noises when the clutch is released?
If it's the clutch or gearbox, the box will have to come out, not much of a job on these cars.
It it's a clutch problem should be around ?40-50 for a new one (thats doing the job yourself). If it's a gearbox you should pick a second hand  for around the same price?

Because it's a BIS model I think the only replacement box has to be from a bis model and not the air-cooled models. Just warning you that they could be a bit harder to find!
I am not 100% on this, so perhaps someone else could confirm this?

Stuey of course you can, i have just finsihed cellotaping up your parcel my mum is posting tomoro morning, you will love!!! i will have to send it seperatly now, i have you address, so no worries m8.

The Bis has a syncromesh gear box, the fiat 500 had a crash box which meant double declutching when lowering gear. as the 500 and 126 aicooled had same engine (diff CC) the gear box was the same. so the answer to your question is no the BIS has a differnt gearbox. I havnt answered that very well, was trying to add a bit of technical for future reference.

Chris,
I think you will find the 500 and 126 gearboxes (aircooled) very different.
The 500 is a crash gearbox and the 126 (aircooled) has syncromesh and suprisingly the 500 box is much stronger!
The other differences is the bellhousing the starter motor is on a different side on the 126 compared to the 500.
I have read somewhere that the bis box is different again and not compatible for the aircooled, not sure of the difference though?
cars :P

The 126 aircooled box is a 3 syncro unit. Just means you have to double clutch to get into 1st when the cars moving.

Ubnfortunatly thats to complicated for most people so 1st gear is normaly knacked and jumps out of gear all the time.   :)
