how come everyone else can get so much BHP from there 126's and/or do massive mods so easily???........im struggling to get 35+ bhp and keep my carb on,and it takes me days/weeks to sus my neg camber project!!.......am i  just a gherkin and slow?............  :roll:

The VW barrel conversion has been done before, one of the Polish sites has instructions that show how to modify the barrels. The conversion gives 800cc not 1600! unless VW made a 3200cc flat four that I haven't heard about.  :shock:

I don't know why you would need to modify the car body though it will fit inside the standard one just fine.

I'm begining to think that the only thing getting 'juiced up' involves kleenex.

On a more serious note, I had a good look around 'Little Wopper' a couple of months back, its a 500 with a VW flat four and box built for drag racing, a  very well put together car that proves that these things can be done. Have some pics if anybodys interested.

how long has litle whopper been around nigel?,i had a custom car mag i think it was,mid seventies with a red 500 running VW flat four.........the shame was,it apparently started life as an abarth 595 or such......i always remember the article,and being saddend by the waste!   a normal 500 would have done the job!

It was built in the US in the 70's, It has the US bug eye headlights, I can't remember ever hearing of a genuine Abarth with the official USA bug eyed body but I suppose they could have made some. Its more likely that if it was Abarthised, it would have been done with a kit (like many of the Abarth badged cars) but it does not look like it has any abarth bits on it.

I don't think its a waste, many cars have been saved by the fact that they have been used for racing, if it was a standard car it is unlikley to have had the care and attention lavished on it over the past 30 years and would have probably ended up rotting away in a junk yard. If you were to take a rare car like an Abarth now and chop it up, then thats a different matter, but back then it was jsut anotheroout of date production model, do you think the same about sombody building a Focus to use a a race car today?[/i]

 i saw was different one,it looked stock but with the engine swop etc.

i know what your saying,its the same localy,nearly all the extreme rally escorts are/were actuly RS 2000's or mexicos..at the time cheap base cars.............now very sort after......i cant help feeling pangs tho nigel...........and as for the 131 sport or maybe abarth that is locally rallied/hillclimbed......well,when i see the perspex screens riveted in it makes me cry..............................

My biggest shock is this guy had done the work in a week.
From asking about tuning info he has put a 1.6engine from a fiat 500 in his 126.

Hudsonhenry why did you waste so much time fitting your engine a 1.6 from a standard 500 would have been an easy swap.

1.7 Alfa engine in a 126 been done
Honda 1.4 been done
chevy engines
V6 Vw engines been done
Even Lobster power

But in a week !!!!! :shock:  :shock:
