guys,further to me other post about the impending freshin up of the 650 buzzbomb motor,i was wondering,at the mo the motor seems fine,but i was gna fit a set of new rings.........should i go the whole hog and fit pistons and barrels,or do these motors respond ok to just some new rings.........

also.........gerstl seems VERY cheap for piston/barrel and rings.....quality ok?

ah well,ive gone for the complete new barrel set,and some other stuff as well,xmas comes early in our house!!!  :lol:

at least i'll be able to balence the pistons nigel!! :D

Just a thought can't the old barrels you are taking off be bored out to 80mm, and then use bis pistons to increase the engine to 700cc, or isn't there enough meat on the liners.

probably,i dont know,but i think im putting enough strain on the bottom end as it is.......its gna be around 10-1 compression and reving to 6k....... :shock:

its all been done before im sure,but this is the way my project is going........ :lol:

The standard barrels can be taken out to achieve 695ish but the metal at the bottom of the barrel gets very thin. The piston does not travel this far down but with all the heat that is generated I would not take the chance on a lump falling off and into the crankcase. All the 700cc kits come with barrels that have a thicker casting, only problem is that the crank case needs opening up to fit them,
