BIS coolant level sensor
« on: April 04, 2019, 02:53:38 PM »
The coolant level sensor in the BIS expansion tank seems to be notoriously unreliable and expensive to replace.

Has anyone used one from a different car instead? There are lots available at low prices but before I launch into buying something I’d like to know if it’s been done before.

Possible examples:

I am interested in this too, not sure if mine Works but i doubt it.
@Skippy -  you Access it by removing the side vent-grille above the tank...

edit: Here is one, not too expensive

I should have looked, it’s clearly visible through the vent!
Seems odd if it is specific to the 126 Bis. I’ll check out some other Fiat models.....

At a First glance it seems to be the same, but you should take your out and compare it.
Tbh i do not consider this a crucial part, if you are low on coolant the engine will get hotter, in that case you stop and check. One thing i learned is to keep one eye on the temperature gauge at all times. (the temperature sensor IS crucial imo, and its readily avaliable here so i plan to change mine).

I'm sure member nick7nick7 has replaced his sensor with a 3rd party one and got it working. I'd give him a PM.

This the cheapest fan switch I’ve found. Not bought one myself though.....

At this price I’m almost tempted to get one for a test.

If it's compatible, your onto a winner. Here's an old thread with pics when I was trying to find one..  http://club126uk.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8930.msg65687#msg65687
