Weber 32 DCOF Setup
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:22:33 PM »
Hello,

does anybody use a Weber 32 DCOF on Panda head? I use a Dynojet wide band commander, and this says, air/fuel ratio is much too rich at little throttle. Actual setup is

idle jet #40
main jet #110
aircor. #190
atomizer F50
cam 40-80/80-40
head -2mm (11:1)

Any better idea?

Regards from Germany, Andi

Hi Andi,
There are a few members running panda heads on the forum,  With the modification you have, if it were my car I would take the car down to a rolling road so the engine can be tuned throughout the rev band when the engine is under load.
The ignition timing will be non standard and the weber may need different emulsion tubes, air correction jets etc.

I had the same problems with my 32-28 Dell'orto. Could the camshaft (40-80/80-40) be the reason for the trouble?

As with all high lift sport cams they tend to be very lumpy at the bottom end of the rev band but then they start to sing when you reach 2500rpm upwards, on your 40-80/80-40 does it sound like its on choke on tick over?
If the cam has been timed up correctly using a dial gauge and a good protractor it should be O.K. These engines are old technology and need to be setup accordingly, On a rolling road they can play about with the ignition timing and try different jets, emulsion tubes to lean off the bottom end, while the engine is under load with a gas analyser stuck in the exhaust they should be able to get the right mixture throughout the rev range.

Have you a lightened flywheel as well?

I have a panda head but not a 32 dcof.  I do have a dellorto dhla but this is not fitted yet and i may not fit it at all.  It look me a while to get the car running well when i put the panda head on but i just have a standard cam/ignition etc.

My flywheel is 4,6kg , this is a good compromise, i think. I reduced the main jet size from 110 to 105, and now i have an air/fuel ratio of 13:1 up from about 2700 rpm. Idle-mixture is 14,5:1. But the problem is between those two points, at the change-over (help me: Is it called so?): With a little throttle the mixture runs down to 10:1.
How much valve clearance should i give to this cam? Now it's 0,20/0,24mm. Ignitiontiming 15° ? I don't want to risk overheating.

Have you been in touch with the camshaft manufacturers they should be able to advise you on the tappet settings, I have in the past built up Ford and Vauxhall engines in various states of tune, but as i posted earlier i have always gone to a professional tuner to get cars set up, They do this job every day and have far more knowledge than me, but thats what i payed them for [-/ You don't want to spend all that money only to find that the engine melts because its not set up properly.
