652cc carb specs
« on: February 10, 2019, 09:39:26 AM »
Ok so I understand the 600cc engine used a 28 IMB 3 carb and the 650cc a 28 IMB 5

Anyone know what the difference between these carbs is? For some reason my 652cc Deville has an IMB 3 on it.....

Should I invest in the correct IMB 5 or get a rebuild kit for the 3? It's leaking air through the butterfly spindle.

Cheers

  • It's not the carb size that matters, it's the jet

Thanks that info was helpful

I've just received a brand new Weber IMB 5 / 250 in the post......

There's no cap and gauze over the needle valve, the fuel in and out pipes are joined in the bore. Anyone had this before?

Cheers

That will be one of the made under license reproduction carbs then. Some were made in Spain and some in China I believe. Do let us know how you get on with it .

Thanks Rusty

Well the box is Spanish anyway, looks quite nicely made.

What's with the lack of a gauze? Do they assume everyone has inline fuel filters?

I can only assume that it was a cost saving measure. If you are fitting an online filter make sure that it is on the inlet side of the fuel pump and not between pump and carb.

Carb seems good far better than the IMB3 that was on there. Nice slow smooth idle and it picks up well. Plus all the pop pop popping on over run is gone.

It always started well when cold but struggled when hot, this is much improved.

Overall if it's a cheap repro carb it's good enough will see how long it lasts.
