« on: January 27, 2013, 03:51:54 PM »
well spent the weekend in the garage with MLF and decided whoever put the front suspension together needs shooting, why would you use motorcycle shocks >:( so need to start again on the front..the wiring im half way through only thing i cant get to work is the headlight flasher and water squirters any idea folks....new stalks maybe is there a way of testing current or do they just wear out???i will have lots of plastic bits left over soon, i may have somehing you need.ok so drove the car and coming from a sprint/hillclimb background in single seaters this scared the poo out of me, mainly due to front suspension having no travel will post some pics in the week.  if any one has a full front suspension package, after market if poss please let me know.

Have you got any pictures of the set up you`ve got on there at the moment?
Is it still using the original leaf spring?

You can get some aftermarket reversed eye leaf springs quiet cheap.

There are some other alternatives including independent front suspension, but these are very expensive.
It depends really on your budget or which way you want to take it.

 Whereabouts are you based?

you need some coilovers with that set up - failing that if you get rid of it all let me know what bin you put it in...

Wow, that looks completely different to a standard set up and looks like someone went to a load of trouble there.
Going back to a leaf spring will be, like going backwards. Perhaps you just need to do some tweaking.

Couple of pics, just to show how a normal set up looks like. Check out the difference :o

changing the lower pivot while keeping the standard upper arm suggests its not set up right.
The coilover kits are similair  to what you have. Maybe you could have that modified?
You would need to move the lower pivot to where it would be on the leaf spring.

The steering pivot is sitting a bit high. That could cause some complications, unless that red boss is welded in place.

Do you know what car the hubs came from? one of the small front wheel drive fiats I expect
Rust does not discriminate

no idea what hubs there from, do you mean extend the lower arms to the same size as the leaf spring so they pivot in the same place, red boss is not welded in place, i think the main problem is the travel the shocks open are 10" and close i only have 1/2 inch travel not good, but also some of the ball joints seem to be at there most angle which means i cant adjust the camber properly, im sure this setup could work if modded its just having someone saying mmm this needs sorting or that if you no what i mean, springs are 150llbs, im in basingstoke if anyone wants too look and whos got some engineering degree :D

back to standard uprated with a few tweeks i think, just got to source it, the car is too light to worry to much, ples i need a bit more weight up front, spoke to a few hillclimbers and there using standard with reverse eye and avo shocks.
