How to get nut off rear hub
« on: May 14, 2020, 02:33:18 PM »
Hi,
Does any have any of the tips on how to get the nut off the inside of the rear hub, see photos.
Got the hand brake on full and using my biggest torque wrench but cant budge it. The nut has been crimped on and i think i have pushed/hammered out the crimp with steel centre punch.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi, do you have access to an impact socket gun......if you can get the socket on with an extension bar the shock should bring the nut off....🤷‍♂️

If the handbrake can't stop the wheel turning, put the wheel back on & lower the car so the weight is on that hub.
You may need to put block of wood or similar to give you clearance from below.

Also, I prefer to use a breaker bar rather than a torque wrench to undo stubborn nuts - with a length of steel tube over the bar if really stubborn.
