Was told about a man local that had 2 126s. Bi's. One with 12000 miles the other had 18000 or 20000 miles. Can't remember. Lol. Well my 11 year said he wanted an other car and he wanted a fait. He want Ed an inbetweeners car or a 126.
I told him about the 126 in donegal, so 13 miles down over the border we went.
The car was stored in a container under a cover bone dry, stripped for painting, never welded engine out for painting. I got one pic of him the car the owner in container, up later.
Well he bought it, needs ignition barrel keys first on list,
Let the fun begin

Has this forum died. So many lookers. So many no replies. What the feck. 11 years old. So many no goodiers
-
Good luck with the project, Shielsey, it’s sounds like a great first one for you and your son! Don’t worry about the lack of replies, it’s winter and we’re all fed up of looking at rain and being unable to drive our cars! Over to you to cheer us all up! 😉👍
-
Yes I understand, tiny had a beetle restored by me when he was 4.last year he bought a polo. For 90 pounds sold it after doing a few bits sold it for 390. Christmas he asked for chiqchento workshop manual.. Then last week I told him about 126 and he bought it. So for lack of pics,

Kinda, there's daily activity on Facebook. Eventually this forum will only be kept alive by workshop manual purchases and Bar Vitelli's stubborness :P
I'm surprised your son would want a Cinquecento having watched the Inbetweeners... the show doesn't portray it as a desirable car lol. I'm also surprised that an 11 year old would even want a car... what's the point if you can't drive it! Are you sure this is not just an excuse for you to get a 126, Shielsy :P
-
Tiny can drive he has had 3 driving lessons so far. There's a company who teach young people from the age of 10 and up how to drive. I have a porsche 924 and beetle.
-
Restoration pictures please! 🤩
-
Sorry haven t collected it yet. But in fairness to tiny he s doing a lot of Internet reading up.
I have a few bits to finish, paint the garage white inside to tidy up and help reflect the light, paint the floor then we'll get it.
Tiny dad

Tinys 126 is 1 step closer to coming home. He s saving his money, I gave him a folder to keep receipts in a 126 manual, my friend bought him a book to keep a record of his resto and a new hacksaw.
He emptied his money box of £8 and went to my mates car components shop. Gave the money to Adrian in exchange for da discs and sheets of sandpaper.
Adrian explained to him about the different grades and use, at 11 he has to learn somewhere.
We have been clearing the garage shed , cloakroom painted inside of the garage, he took 2 black bags of old clothes to the clothes bank and got £5,20 more money to spend on his car lol.
We stripped an ole jack cracking handle from my ole 126 plus original tool kit. I said if his car had t got them they where his, if he had them he could sell them to fund his 126.
Now refurbed
-
Tiny was given 2 more black bags off old clothes to sell he got £5.20 I gave him another £5.40.
So off to af components to buy more stuff for doing 126.
So far he s spent just under £17.
Another friend paddy mc Gill gave him a socket set to go with his other bits.
Doing OK for a 11 year old

Skinning a beetle door is no different to doing 126 fiat.. So watch.
First strip the door handles winders door cards, water cover, the flip over grind along the edges of the skin until a fine black line appears this is the skin ready to split.
I tap a spot weld splitter chisel very thin along the black line this will pop the skin.
I then cut along the top lifting the skin of, by doing it this way I can get at the 4 retaining pins that hold on chrome scrapper. Strip out glass quarter glass, the grind of the last of the lip.
Some small repairs will be needed to edges.

Tiny and myself spent an hour out in the yard tiding up the van skin. First gring down the plug welded around the edges of the skin.
Marked the new skin edge to match the original and cut to the right height.
Ting then painted on metal treatment using bronx, good gear.
Then I seam sealed the inner edges of the skin lips and the joint inside the skin.
Flipped the door over grinding the welds on skin face lightly moving from side to side so not to distort the skin. Again metal treated it too

I do it to every car I restore. I know its not a fiat yet but ye can learn from it and use it on your own cars. Better to have posts up than none. Cheers chris

t get over the border to collect

if i was doing that green car it would be cheaper and quicker to replace full quarter panels

As much as I prefer to see our cars (126s) kept standard, I’d be very interested to see what you could do if you ever decided to do something a little different like a Fiat 126 van or even a campervan. I’ve been thinkIng about a campervan conversion myself for some time but have only a basic design and have been too busy to spend serious time moving it forward.
-
That would be an interesting one. But standard 126 towing a camping trailer would be nice. Renault or seat van back end grafted on a 126 body
-
With your skills I think that you could be more ambitious than that, think about a Fiat 126 campervan conversion more in keeping with the 126 design and shape of the car. Something that looked like it was original, standard and factory fresh. Probably a one person campervan, something that someone could do a long road trip in. It would need additional storage space using both the roof and interior and also a sleeping space which could be achieved by removing the passenger seat and making use of that space. Cooking facilities would need to be used outdoors and washing and toilet facilities would need to take advantage of external options like e.g. using a sports centre. What do you think? Could it be done? BIS would probably be easier but aircooled is probably the real puzzle to solve.
