Foolishly lost part for Abarth Rocker cover (Gucci)
« on: November 26, 2009, 09:58:37 AM »
After deciding to tart up my engine a little more to celebrate it passing another MOT, I recently fitted one of those silly 'Abarth' rocker covers. Stupidly I failed to tighten the brass breather/pressure release pipe that screws into the neck. Needless to say it dropped off somewhere on my 9 mile drive late last night. I only noticed, when i was stopped in traffic, the engine seemed to be making a very 'blowy' noise. once stopped, i checked and found that it was missing this bit.

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement for this part, which is basically just a special shaped hollow bolt?

It's the part circled below

take the rocker cover to B&Q. it's probably a standard plumbing thread, you should find something to  do the job.

They look ok, but the one with the 1/4" thread will be far too small.
The advantage of taking the rocker cover to B&Q is the you can screw it in and check it fits.
I'm not sure if the hole is used as pressure relief as I've never seen one up close. You could buy an open one, if it leaks too much oil you could bolt on an end cap and drill a whole to the right size. Are you sticking a breather pipe on the end of it?

Not too sure. I was thinking of fitting a small catch tank (or coke can) as with the old rocker cover, with the oil cap off, it used to let quite a bit of oil out (possibly a piston ring problem!). However it only seem to let air out as if I hold my hand over the hole for a few minutes, it stays clean.

I think i'll try the B&Q idea, at least to work out the exact thread required if nothing else.

Cheers for all the reply's guys.

I've still not managed to get down to any plumbing shop. I wont be back in the car until next week, so wont get to check the thread. Would anyone happen to know what size and thread the pipe is?

Thanks

Dom

Hi Dom , had any luck with that part yet ? I found a couple of similar items up in my loft but the thread size is the all important thing. Are you able to get an idea of size ?

Still not found it. I've been on holiday for a week, so will get the hunt back on this evening as i haven't driven the car for a while. I'll take the cover off and try and work out the thread.

Cheers
