Title: Starting / carb help needed please.
Post by: Magic on July 08, 2019, 11:41:22 AM
1997 650 engine.

So up until Friday I was using the car and all was well.

Come Saturday I go to start the car and I notice fuel sitting on the carb plate.

Even now it seems that even without throttle or choke its flooding itself.

I have taken the carb off and cleaned the jets out along with a general clean and gasket inspection.

I remove the plugs and dry them off then it starts runs for 4-5 seconds and dies due to flooding.

Any help guys ?

Robbie

Is it worth changing the plugs and the petrol pipe (if it is old and maybe contributing to the leak)?

New plugs were fitted last week and the pipes don't leak. It seems the external leak is coming from the choke gasket.

Just seems strange that it was fine and now not.

Check the carb float for hairline cracks it is an increasingly common fault these days. Best to take it of and give it a shake to see if it has any petrol inside.

Great info mate we actually did that before reading this.

And your spot on it was half full of fuel so we sealed it up for now and ordered a new one.

Thanks
