My lads has put h4 led headlight bulbs in his car and they are nice and bright and also retain the beam pattern so as i have cut slots in my headlights to take h4 bulbs i thought I'd give one a go to see the difference.
-
Awesome!
-
This is on my to do list! (Think I'll get LEDs that retain the original colour though)
Is the beam sharper/more defined at the edges or is it just a case LED is brighter?
-
The light is sharper and brighter and as they are only 25w will put less strain on the electrics.
The beam pattern was good but a little high but i never adjusted the light as i had to give him the bulb back :D so i'm going to take the plunge in a week or 2 and buy my own set and post up some before and after shots :)
-
ive put led side lights in mine for when it goes back on the road but having it all led would be great- I'll have a look into that!
-
Where did you get them?
-
Interesting how things develop and move on. Some of the guys on here probably remember the big debate on here a few years back about led bulbs with a number of posts saying that they will never be any good in cars :o
Led headlights sound good if they are brighter as the low power requirement would mean not having to fit a relay like you do if you fit halogen bulbs.
If you go for LEDs for indicators then you need to have an electronic flasher unit as opposed to the original thermal unit :)

These are the ones my lad bought and i must say they work well in his peugeot.

Yes, led lights seem to have really come along with the development of the cree led's. i might go led on the indicators but i did try them on my motor bike and was not impressed with the light output in the daytime but thoses wee normal led's, i might try some cree led indicator bulbs at some point :)
-
Ive done a before and after video of the lights, i did it with my dash cam and i should have used my normal camera but it still shows the difference between the 2 but it doesnt do it justice really.
I have gone the whole hog and put in cree led sidelights as ive converted them to 501 bulbs with some holders form some old 206 headlights i had :)

They look quite impressive ;D not like the old LED bulbs i tried a few years ago

I just bought a set and fitted them, still finishing my wiring but they seem to go in no problems

is there a certain way that these lights need to be rotated? How do you know the actual LEDs are facing the correct way... or does it not make a difference?
-
They’re pretty bright!

See how on the front ones there is a small plate under the leds, this needs to be pointing upwards from under the leds when the bulb :good: is in the light

Looking good :good: you tried them yet?
-
Still finishing building it yet and have the brakes and fuel system to plumb in so I can't yet!
-
Hi Stuey, I hope your going to be able to get your car on the road this year, it's spending too much time in the garage ......lol Those lights like a good upgrade.
-
Ohh i see, my lights didnt include that retaining clip you have... pity!! Would have madd my work easier, i had to take the halogen lamps apart and use the mersl ring from that to make a collar for the new leds, what a faff
Thaankyou for the photos :D
-
my lights are still working well :thumbup, did anyone else go the led route?
-
Wow, I might have to get some of those. 8)
-
My brother has leds on his passat. They do shine well and all but they throw light all over the place so i do not consider them oncoming-traffic friendly. Plus they do not let us pass our mot here with leds mounted.
I myself plan to go the retro yellow bulb route on my bis....
-
Yellow bulbs look awesome on a 126 they give it a continental look. I use them myself occasionally in the summer when the evenings are lighter

Exactly!
Btw are they any good for night driving?
-
Yes and no. At 45 watt they’re not exactly bright however the majority of the roads these days are well lit and those that are not you just drive more cautiously (i.e slower). The yellow hue does seem to react with objects better than the standard white light you get - I think perhaps the yellow pigment has a positive effect on certain colours it shines on.
-
Cool, thx

Mine don't throw light everywhere, i think a lot depends on the headlight and the quality of the bulb, my lad had some in his golf (Different bulb and make) they they were awful and did throw light everywhere.
I also think some people put in the highest power ones they can, mine in the fiat are only 25w.

It is possible, he probably went for the cheapest cree ones… :P
