126 Black - thinking of selling
« on: January 07, 2014, 11:16:42 AM »
Hi All,

A few years ago, I bought a genuine 126 Black from the family of a lady I knew (now deceased) who reversed it into her garage in 1984 and simply left it there until I bought her.

The car is absolutely genuine and has only 35K on the clock - no structural rot whatsoever - only a few surface patches here and there.

I have partly stripped her down - the exhaust was shot and the starter cable seized etc.  Before this, I had her running like a sewing machine - albeit a little noisy due to the holes in the exhaust.

She is a non runner now - unless I get a new exhaust and fit it.

Question is - do you think this is a saleable car in its current condition?  Should I hang onto her until I have the time to get her running again?  How much would she be worth???

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

Wow! A Black is definitely a saleable car, especially if it is original with the funky checkered interior...

You could restore it and pop a MOT on but to be honest, you should get a good enough price as is subject, of course, to condition?  Do you have any pictures you could share?  My missus will kill me but if it's in good nick I'd be tempted to make an offer myself (!!)  What sort of price are you after?

It is absolutely genuine - with the funky (Orange) chequered interior with orange piping on the seats - even down to the door cards.
There is no structural rot whatsoever - even the bubbling mentioned before has not perforated the bodywork anywhere.  The car was "zibarted" (forgive my spelling) from new - when I removed the carpet, the sills have about 6 plugs on each side......  Connected a new battery and everything works - including the radio and good old fashioned cassette player!

I have no idea what it is worth - this is why I am posting here - and trusting you guys to be honest with me!!!!

Will try to post pictures later.

I just found the pictures on one of your old posts, it looks lovely, really nice but if you have some new ones please do post.  I'm very tempted and although I have an idea on price it might be best to let one of the other chaps shout out as I always pay too much (!!)

If you are thinking of selling it , it will be worth heaps more with an MOT, a new exhaust is not alot, plus a few other bits, definatly worth keeping , enjoying, then sell if you wish. It does sound a rarer one according to the other posts. Mike

Garry I thought you was only into Black Sheep and not Black 126`s :P

As to the price, as the guys already said above, all depending on condition and would obviously be worth more all ready to go with an MOT.

 You also have a PM.

Hi I would love some photos of this, I am also interested in this car. It is very saleable and if I'm honest I would keep it and mot it and drive it :)
If it is entirely original then again, it would be an amazing car when finished.

Chris

Ps. Garry doesn't need another car!

Well, if it helps, you asked for advice and here is mine:

1) sell it to the club member with the most Italian sounding name  ;D
2) stick it on eBay with great pictures with a starting price you would be happy with and see what happens, it's often the best way to determine price
3) keep it, treasure it, look after it and keep it original as it is a beautiful and very special car and an important part of our Fiat 126 history, I did not even know there were any RHD Fiat 126 Black cars left

All the best and good luck with whatever you decide!
