Fuel pump lifter/tappet/rod for 652cc
« on: September 21, 2019, 03:09:22 PM »
Hi
What is the procedure to replace the rod//tappet/lifter please? Haynes Manual does not mention anything except that to pull it out..but there is not enough space from the alternator. Do I need to takeout the alternator?

Many thanks
neville

Thanks to all  for your feedback..
I believe the rod is still the original one...the end of the rod which goes in the pump, last 3 cms, is rusty.
The car has 41k kms.
Tks

It is not unusual to get corrosion inside the back of the fuel pump as the oil does not get up there. I would just clean it up and go with it. Main thing is that you have 2.5mm movement on the rod from the camshaft and the rod should protrude 1.5 to 4mm outside the spacer.

Yesterday I switched (finally) to an electric pump (HEP-02A). My old pump was leaking small amounts of petrol from the top. I just left the old pump in place, so I don't have to make a plate to seal the hole, and closed the pipes of the old pump with the plastic covers that came with the new electric pump. Up to now I'm really happy with the result.
