Oh, sorry to hear about no luck Ralph, keep looking! There will be one tucked away somewhere! Got my ej20 sat at home now, beginning the proper strip down tonight to replace bits as I go along as it was only £100 because it needs new bottom end bearings, also the guy threw in a nice shiny new Sti inlet! Very pleased with my purchasement for now :), hope you find your parts soon! :)

Removed the head and found corrosion on the wall of the cylinder, not sure how fatal it is.  Used 400,800 and 1200 paper with light oil to remove the corrosion but I can still feel an irregularity in the smooth surface. Ordered up a full gasket set from over the pond should be here by the end of the month, I hope. It took nearly an hour to release the head from the block due to corrosion crud on one of the head studs, top left stud you can see the amount of crud still there, so I believe the head gasket had gone causing the problem. Therefore I have decided to restore the engine, so the strip down in serious begins plus the search for oversized pistons-rings? Photos show corrosion on cylinder wall dark areas. ::) ::) ::)

Oooh dear, I'm beginning the strip down of my engine, however my GCSE exams start Tuesday so I'm calling it off until I've got them out of the way, may need 2 new heads sadly 😭 that's still to be checked,

Dom, sorry about the heads, it's a popular engine so if you need parts it should be easy enough to source. Best of luck with the exams, hear from you soon.

It was a sad moment when I had to admit it may be best to source new ones, however, the person I bought this engine from has loads so going to see if I can get one at a knock down price lol,
Thankyou for the good luck to mate :) all should be fine, revision is more important than the car (as my parents keep insisting) so finally subsided lol,

As soon as I get a break in them I'll be using it to relieve all stress so shouldn't be too long lol,

Hope your build goes well here on out! :)

The 126 engine in stock form can rev to 4700 ish with 24hp, while the Subaru can rev to 5200 with 75hp @ 4800rpm therefore if using standard wheels and tyres it will go a bit faster, not worked out the difference, it will also get there more quickly and be able to cruise at higher speeds more easily.  If you want to go faster fit larger wheels and tyres, need to take care as the increased torque required to move the car will put strain on the drivetrain so it is a balancing act.

i know my 126 isn't the best at cornering in the wet and thats on a pair of pirelli 165's, the difference in engine weights will make the front end even lighter don' t you think (a bag of ready mix under bonnet :D)

I don't know the difference in engine weight, but the Subaru ea81 engine doesn't weigh that much more than the 126 lump as the Subaru unit is all alloy so I don't think it will make any difference to the handling. Hope to prove this theory later this year.

Ralph, speak for yourself lol.
My Subaru engine weighs a b#*%+%d lot! I could quite easily carry the original round but not the Subaru one, it's a two man job and even then it's a struggle!

good luck with it though :)

Dom, the ej series engines start at 120kg, the ea81 only weighs 80kg  :P :P :P. I have just bought a replacement ea81 should arrive next week.
