It's looking great! Love your engineering skills and how neat and tidy all the work you do it! Are you going to adapt the original gearbox to put the power down or at least help it live a little longer?

I will inspect All gearbox internals to ensure they are in good condition, replace if required and hope for the best.

Ahh right ok then,
Brilliant work though! Can't wait until this project is done so I can see if it's worth me trying my hand at the fabrication you have done :)
Great thread and keep it up!
thanks Dom

I had a major problem in finding someone who could supply an ignition coil to the correct primary and secondary resistance specified in the manual. Took a punt and emailed acuspark and the tested some coils and one fell into the mid range specified in the manual and it only cost £12, should arrive Wednesday. So hopefully I will fire it up next weekend.

Great news! I've been offered a 2.0ltre turbo for 100 (with a few minor issues) and then I'm planning on using a 944 box in order to reduce the amount of gearboxes I shall tear through

944 box sounds interesting, I assume it's standard adapter plate as used on the beetle Subaru conversions.

Yup, that's exactly what I'm thinking, just sort or copy what they do but incorporate the attempt to shorten everything (126's are tiny compared) lol

Also, I know I've asked you loads of questions but I have one more if that's ok,

How are you planning on mounting it into the car? But the same method as original engine or by making an adapter plate to lock it to the car??

Thanks Dom

Dom, I intend to adopt the same support system Alistair used on his conversion. I will see if I can post a link. I finally managed to fire her up, she lives. Only problem one cylinder has only50 while the others have 210 when I did the compression test. Anyway it all seems to next is the trial fit to finalise position of rediator and exhaust.

Quite a good idea he has used there :) I'll definitely go for that one, looks strong, sterdy and reliable :) Thankyou for that like Ralph :) hope your conversion is complete and running soon!

I am finding it difficult to locate an engine gasket set, can get it from Australia or America but at a price, the ej engine might have been the best option as spares are abundant. I will continue with the trial fit and see how much work is required to fix the compression issue. I may have to change to an ej if the bore in mine is done.
Can't wait to see your progress photos.

Latest update, tried everywhere to get a gasket set but to no avail, one of the engine machine shops said I would have to supply the block + oversize pistons and rings if I wanted a re-bore, another said he couldn't find anything listed for this engine. So I am now weighing up the cost of importing what I need to fix the engine against buying an ej20, so if you are thinking on a Subaru replacement engine I would not go for the ae81 or 82.
