Stunning car!
However, is it true what they said in the listing, 'ONE OF ONLY 3 BAMBINO MODELS BUILT' - I thought there were only a few models i.e. the original, BIS, DeVille, Happy End, never heard of a Bambino model?
-
Nice car but not too keen on the ferrari-ness of it...the price has gone up quickly...could be a £3k+ sale!
-
Nice tight car! But a real shame about the Ferrari badges :yikes
It says: 4 SPEED MANUAL WITH FERRARI SHIFT SYSTEM
(http://i.ebayimg.com/t/FIAT-126-1983-RARE-ITALIAN-FERRARI-RED-BAMBINO-EDITION-34-000-MILES-FROM-NEW-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMTk1/$T2eC16NHJIkE9qU3jc+DBQ30ICrUqw~~60_58.JPG)
And I can't remember it beeing featured in Practical Classics...
-
There was a company in England that made Bambinos ??? He bought Fiat 126 from Poland did a rebuils then listed them on Ebay as Bambinos. He charged about £4000 and Yes people did bid. He told me when I asked that he is the only company to make official Bambinos.
Yes I know it is Bo%&*$ks but that was the story.
Very often the Germans referred to the square head as Bambino and the cars were known as a Bambino in Italy.
The picture on Ebay does not show the Engine just lots of ghastly Ferrari bits and bobs.
(I would like the steering wheel though, please)
-
Unless it has been resprayed I don't think this car was in practical classics in 2009. Will ask them.
-
Yes I'm not too keen on the Ferrari badges either, or the fact there's 2 loads of stripes on the car, in my opinion it clashes ???
Will be interesting to see how much it goes for :)
-
Nice looking 126 But, according to the timeline they stopped producing the 126's in Italy in 1980 :headscratch:
-
Quite nice. I like the steering wheel also. But I agree the ubiquitous Ferrari badges ruined it big time. I am not sure about the stripes as well. I suppose you can always remove the offending bits. If Dajwid and Pete126 are right, selling something that it is not, is a bit of a con, isn't it?
-
I could make 3 'mashed potato special editions' and sell them. I would be the only person making that particular special edition making them unique. unfortunately it's down to the buyer to asses the merit and credence of the special edition.
Pete - interesting point about the manufacture year.
-
I asked for details regarding the engine upgrades.
-
I thought it was Ferrari powered to go with the 'FERRARI SHIFT SYSTEM'.
I also asked, but no reply as yet. Did you ask if it is Polish made?
-
This auction made me laugh. But I feel sorry for someone who buys it and thinks that it is genuine. I could do this to mine and say its a special edition :$
Tom
-
Here is the seller's response:
Quote:
hi there,im sorry but to be honest with you,i dont know what upgrades have been carried out
the engine is upgraded and was done at the fiat factory and not here in the uk
the bambino was a special edition to celebrate the partnership between fiat and ferrari
it defo has more power than the original 650cc standard engine.
Unquote.
How can he not know the modifications made to the car. I reckon it has a stock engine.
-
It looks to be a "Brown" that has had a run in with a vinyl cutter.

Fiat 126 Key Dates Time Line - illustrating the life of the orginal Fiat 126 from 72', the Fiat 126 de ville and the Fiat 126 BIS
1972 - The Fiat 126 was announced at the Turin Motor Show in October - The 126 proved popular with the Journalists testing them.
1973 - The Fiat 126 was launched in right hand drive in Britain (July)
1974 - New variations were seen, which included a sunroof as standard
1976 - The arrival of the Fiat 126 de Ville with an up rated engine of 652cc. The bore was increased from 73.5mm to 77.0mm giving 1bhp more and 2ftlbs more torque. The brakes were increased from 170mm diameter to 185mm diameter.
(Special models of the de Ville incorporated velour cloth seats)
Carpets - Cloth trim (on the lower part of the doors) - More powerful breaks - Sound proofing - Heated rear window - Alternator
1980 - Fiat stopped production of the 126 in Italy. By this time Italy had produced 1,352,912 cars. Although the 126 were still massively in demand & so production moved to Poland . Where production was financially more viable.
1980 - 1992 - During the period the company FSM which roughly translates as "The small car factory" exported over 897,000 cars all around the world from Italy to Australia.
1985 - In May the 652cc 126 received the engine from the Polish 650E version with higher compression ratio of 8.0:1 and revised ignition settings.
1987 - Announcement of the dissimilar BIS to the air-cooled in September. With a horizontal water-cooled 704cc engine, transformed the 126 into a hatchback. (The engine almost identically located as the Giardiniera (Fiat 500 estate van)
1992 - The end of an era: The last year of production of the Fiat 126 intended for Britain was in 1992 where the BIS was subsequently (replaced by the Cinquecento)
2000 - FSM in Poland continued to produce the air-cooled 126 untill 2000, with slight revisions to the car including the bodywork panels and eradication of the triangular windows.
TBH I have never heard of an official Fiat factory RHD Bambino :headscratch:

Have just sent this message, "Hello, is there any documentation of where it was built, as far as I know (I am the 126 uk registrar) there were no 126's built after 1980 in Italy, also Bambino was the German name for the 126, not a limited edition, this car is either very interesting, or very wrong, we have a few club members who are interested, but are put off by the above. If you can show us the paperwork to support ,I am sure you will get much more interest. Marc club126uk.co.uk "
-
FIAT 126 650 Personal 4 (till 1979 -Italy) = Polski FIAT 126p 650K (for the Soc.Block till 1984) = FIAT 126 650 Bambino (Polish export version)!!! Since 1980 in Italy there is only Panda!
PS- Mine is 650 Bambino unfortunately with some FL mods...
-
And the celebration of the Ferrari Fiat merger was probably in 1969, when Fiat took on the controlling share.
-
I think we had the same discussion before and I believe it`s the same seller who sold few of these"limited edition Bambino" cars.
Just have a search for Bambino on the forum:)
Me think it`s a load of b@..@...
-
poo Talking..... standard car with some extras, and poo seller talking
-
I agree with 1973/126, but it does look good, and Ebay is very good at sorting out disputes. So if you buy it and are not happy, I'm sure that being sold a factory special car that doesn't exist would work out quite nicely for you.
-
Even if you buy it and are happy, you should be able to get it knocked down to Practical Classics price guide value, due to it being a non existent special edition, that was not even built in the country it is claimed to have been.
-
pretty sure that car was for sale last year in scotland, as a standard chrome bumper red car, with a couple of scabs!
-
Presently £2550, I reckon it will go for £2950 to someone who will be happy regardless! :o
-
Mine should be worth a fortune! It is the only amphibious Fiat 126, a very rare special edition.
-
Well timed!
-
Perhaps somewhat out there just likes the look of the car, despite the lack of pedigree, and may also fancy the Ferrari badges. That said, the exterior and interior looks in v.g. condition.
-
It does look to be (as far as we can see) a very good car, but we know (99%) that it is a FSM (polish built) probably brown, but not the special edition it is claimed to be, 126. Probably with no significant engine mods, and unknown quality suspension mods. It is likely a great 126 (if not a tad garish) just isn't what it is claimed to be.
-

Received this answer "hi there i will have a look for any documentation that will support this and will look at the vin plate to confirm if italian or polish"
Should I link this thread to the seller, It is up to you?
-
Presently at £3100 with a day and a bit to go... :o

As everyone was implying, anyone can make this assertion. The Latin expression comes to mind, "Caveat Emptor", which means, let the buyer beware.

Think he is referring to Michael Schumacher, but the gift from Ferrari was a Fiat 500.
-
Totally agree with Ameteb Buyer beware The Message posted is just here say, unless it can be substantiated by official paperwork from Fiat.

Hi i also spend time on The Polish Forums, the UK is seen as a good place to sell Fiat 126s as we pay a lot more for them than in Poland. It won't take long before word gets around on the price this. 'original' :-X Bambino >:( ??? Sold for in the UK.

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/06/ferrari-458-powered-fiat-500-is-a-juke-r-killer.html
The car I have been looking for was the F500, a Ducatti engined, carbon bodied tribute to Ferrari. I think it was called the prancing Mouse. Made by Hartham.
I can't find it though.
-
£3350...with 22 hours to go...final price £3950?
-
Ferrari Scuderia drivers for 1983 were René Arnoux and Patrick Tambay, both French.
-
Wow! Sold for £3700! :o
I'd hate it if the price of our cars went too high like the 500's but it's good to see they are valued! ;D
What a start to 2013! ;D
-
Gary you left the auction early it went for £4,000.00 GBP = 4,918.53 EUR ;D
-
No it sold for £4000.
I am so pleased with my new 126. A real Ferrari edition. I think it was a bargain. :D ;D
Only Joking. I must say it is a nice 126, It may have a modded engine, but the seller won't tell anyone, it may be Polish but also he won't answer the question. So the buyer has a £4000 surprise.
-
I think it is a good car, just don't think I can say the same about the seller.
-
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lupinehorror/4021124241/
limited edition my a**!
-
Mines got to be worth 4 grand with a Bambino Graphics :P
-
Good find TMF.
-
Imagine if someone really paid 4k for this car and than they find out most of it was a complete lie.
The worst thing is, the seller knew exactly what he was selling, but it didn`t bother him a little bit to make up up few stories.
-
I'm just waiting for the new owner to turn up on here :-)
-
At least it's not as dodgy as Ladislav's new logo (!!) :$
-
LOOK ITS BACK :o :o ;D

-
Was just about to say it's back!
-
Maybe this time he will actually tell someone if the vin plate is in Polish :-) Maybe he will actually send some engine pics or info. Last time the car was in a lock up too far away.
-
I have reported the item to ebay for being fraudulantly listed.
maybe if some other people believe this is the case they could report it too and help prevent someone being overcharged for a 126 with a go faster stripe.
-
I have reported the item to ebay for being fraudulantly listed.
maybe if some other people believe this is the case they could report it too and help prevent someone being overcharged for a 126 with a go faster stripe.
I was planning to do the same.
-
I've reported the item to eBay too - the 126 is up to £3,000 now!
-
Reported, and sent this to the seller.
"Whoever sold you this told you a pack of lies, you should probably look into your legal position as to whether you can take them to small claims court.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lupinehorror/4021124241/ ?? Did you know that all 126's were built in Poland post 1979? Did you know that Bambino was the german name for all 126's, not a special edition? Did you know that false information on ebay is considered to be fraudulent. Also the Ferrari Fiat merger was in 1969 and both Scuderia drivers were French in 1983. "
Marc
Also they lied about the Practical classics appearance, there was not a featured 126 at all in 2009, there was a burgundy 1973 car in the August 2008 edition, and a black 1973 car in the may 2010 edition.
Just seeing what Practical Classics make of it now.
-
I couldn't believe that it's back. Other than the false claims It actually looks like a nice car.
Though the Ferrari badges do look great and everyone should do it :D :D :D
-
It's gone :wave , well done everyone ;D .
Hopefully it will go on sale honestly now, I doubt it, but we've done what we can.
Marc
-
I also reported the car.
I notice the auction has now been removed. I am sure the car will be back.
-
It's back again

-
Blimey the Italian that remembers this on the production line has disappeared. The Ferrari limited edition has also gone.
My guess is it will still sell for over £2500, as past bidders will bid again.
-
He's changed the listing, it only refers to the limited edition in the title. If he is making one off bambino models that's fine. He has lost all of the Italian correspondence and the practical classics link. But it is still advertised as a non existent car. He's still saying that it's Italian and not specifying the engine mods . Perhaps we should all start phoning him :P . Have reported it again, it looks like a good car under the vinyl, why does he feel the need to mislead people.
Marc
-
I noticed its still up.. I just reported as well.
-
I'm guessing Flea-Bay gave him a slapped wrist.
I wasn't impressed with the blatant lies, but I think it's down to the buyer now. If I were spending circa £2000 on a car, I would be checking these little details before handing over any cash
-
Now up to £3000 !!!!
-
I'm waiting for the new owner to join the Club.
-
Blimey someone paid £3100 for a Polish 126 with added Vinyl stickers.
To be honest the car looks like a good 126. It is just a shame that the Seller was not honest about the fact the car is not what he is selling it as.
I am also waiting to hear from the new owner, unless it was bought to sit as a centre piece for a shop window.
-
It will probably reappear on ebay in the not too distant future with the same seller. He probably bid on the car under a different account, to bring up the price. The seller probably won it the last time.
-
hi to everyone, just to let all members know went to see this "bambino" last night :)
to be honest and maybe controversal, the chap was a real gent and put the kettle on and free biccys.
now for the car;very nice indeed!!!!!!!!!,took me for a test drive and was very honest
he did not know too much about the car and was sold it by a trader in rugby for a eye-watering £4995
yes i saw the bill of sale
geniune chap just very naive :(
also saw the original advert and was on ebay last year
hes never heard of the forum,so non the wiser
was tempted though and was willing to take a huge loss :P
-
I told him about the forum a few times.
I asked for photos of engine, no reply.
I asked for info of the vin plate he promised to look but told me the car was too far away to look.
He totally lied about the Italian that remembers the car well.
A number of members contacted him regarding the car.
Sorry but a cup of tea and a biscuit does not make up for a total pack of lies.
Common decency, he would have replied to the number of questions he received.
-
I agree with Dajwid, I asked a lot of the same questions and got no relevant reply, just lies. I also sent him a picture of his car when it was just a normal polish built 126. How naive is he? Does he believe it is a non existent special edition?
-
Hi orangemonkey,
Welcome to the forum there is no doubt that the car looks a stunning example, Unfortunately go into any car sales and the guy will always be your best friend :D They only see pound notes Lets face it that's there job ;D
There's nothing wrong with the car, But the Guy has been selling "Low Mileage Classic Cars" on Ebay for a while now so I don't believe that he would be that naive when he bought this 126 without official paperwork to substantiate what he posted in the Original Listing on Ebay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-126-1983-RARE-ITALIAN-FERRARI-RED-BAMBINO-EDITION-34-000-MILES-FROM-NEW-/330850960658?ViewItem=&ssPageName=VIP%3Awatchlink%3Atop%3Aen&item=330850960658&fromMakeTrack=true&nma=true&si=BcueU2w4BFUYXqlknxDsNJXB2Gc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Why would Fiat give a German Racing Driver a U.K. RHD 126 :D

hey guys thanks for the welcome 8)
couldnt sleep last night, kept thinking about the "bambino"
any way im still v interested in this motor, however im not sure what to pay for it,any ideas?
im not too bothered about the seller and his speel,as long as you think the car is good,
can any of you experts give me a low-down on how much to offer this "naive" seller
-
Hi Orangemonkey.
It must be a bit disheartening walking into the middle of this conversation!
We all aim to be honest about what we we sell to make sure the next owner walks away happy, hopefully for a good few years, which makes it all the more frustrating when someone uses less than honest means to try to boost the sale price of a 126.
I don't know what to suggest in terms of a price. I would have a better idea after looking over the car thoroughly, but my gut feeling is that I wouldn't be willing to trust the seller. If he has been less than honest about the provenance of the car, then there is a fair chance he is being less than honest about the rest of it.
I would not spend £500 on a car unless I was happy with the seller.
-
WELCOME TO THE FORUM
Now I think the seller wasn't very truthfull, but sometimes you can't say no,
If you have no intensions of selling it on in the near future you can splash the cash, as the prices are going up
I never see myself selling either of my 126s, I can't stop spending my money on them
All I can cay is practical classics say a really good one is about £1750 (for the best) No more than £2000
Hope I've helped
;D ;D ;D
-
Ask the owner exactly what engine mody have been done. Post some Pictures, we will notice any external mods very quickly. Look underneath along sills for welding.
The car has been resprayed, so lots of repairs will have been covered up.
Look at the vin plate. Under front bonnet, rear left hand side.
If it is in polish tell the owner.
The car looks very nice, no one has denied that at all. Sadly the seller is not to be trusted by his replies to questions.
My price would be £2-2.5k that is top money for a Polish 126.
You can have mine and spares for £1000 but is needs love
-
£2,000 and not a penny more, as its Polish! :$
Even then that is being generous. My orange Polish one I had from Jan before was stunning, pretty much as it left the Polish factory and I paid £1,300 for that one nearly 5 years ago.
Tom
-
Just a note chaps this is back on ebay again!!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-126-1983-RARE-ITALIAN-RED-BAMBINO-EDITION-34-000-MILES-FROM-NEW-/330891938116?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4d0ab24944
-
well i disagree with the price as I have one with 9k and in really good nick and has brown on the log book not bambino ;D . Its worth what someone is prepared to pay if I were selling. I would not heed to much of practical classic prices as they are often wrong imho
-
well i disagree with the price as I have one with 9k and in really good nick and has brown on the log book not bambino ;D . Its worth what someone is prepared to pay if I were selling. I would not heed to much of practical classic prices as they are often wrong imho
But yours is a car that exists, if you scroll up you will find a picture of this car without the Bambino gubbins, also the engine mods are completely unverified, and after all of this being made clear to the owner (politely to start with) he still insists that it is an Italian built special edition. It was made 4 years after the last Italian 126.
Marc, the registrar. ;D
Doesn't mean I know all, but I have done as much research as I could, and this car is maybe a brown, the 1983 Italian built Bambino special edition DOES NOT EXIST!!!!
-
The prices that we discuss are certainly not the Practical classic prices. I have been on the forum sice it started in in its original style, I watch every 126 sold on Allegro, Ebay, Gumtree..... Prices fluctuate and have certainly gone up over the years.
But as we have all said, it is not the price the guy wants that is annoying it is that this is just a polish 126 that has been done up, To what standard I have no idea as the seller refuses to answer any questions. I have asked repeatedly for Engine pictures and have been told that his camera is playing up, The car is too far away from home ......
If this was a honest advert there would be no problem at all.
-
Fair point , whatever way you look at it its not good imho
-

I would like to weigh in here, in 2009 i went to purchase a bambino 126 from this man, and the copy of practical classics was on the bonnet of the vehicle, it is not this bambino that you speak of it is one of the other 3, the dealer is a massive ferrari enthusiast he owns a 250 gto and a california sat in his show room which he shows at beaulieu every year, i highly doubt a man respected in the ferrari community would tarnish his reputation, also this polish build one gentleman has stated is utter b***'s the bambinos clearly have italian instructions stickers and its also clear from the chassis plates etc, so i would like you all to contact practial classics and find this magazine edition as i do know it exsits, so we can all put a end to this moaning on if it does or not exsist. it quiet clearly does, thankyou for listening
-
I have every edition of practical classics from 2009. I can get the number plates from every 126 in them if you like. I often chat to a certain bauer media editor, so I will ask him who is best to ask. I reported it to practical classics last time, oddly later that day the practical classics references were removed.
If it was built in 1983 it is polish.
Bambino was just the German name for the 126.
And, oh yeah, what's this?!?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lupinehorror/4021124241/
-
Jamie, this seller has been repeatedly asked for information on the car, he simply ignores any questions or has an excuse why he can not tell if the vin is in Polish. His camera was not working so he could not send engine pictures and he knows nothing about cars so does not know what mods have been done.
In the past he had spoken to the Italian that remembered this very car on the assembly line in Italy, being made for a well known racing driver.
This has now been removed from the listing.
If he simply answered questions honestly, proved the car is Italian, Bambino ( German name for the 126) edition, commissioned by Ferrari :D.
Even if he looked at the VIN to see if it was Polish, that may help a little.
I think the guy bought the car, paid too much and wants to get his money back.
The same problem came up when this car was last sold a few years ago.

Hi i think your right the guy just does not know enough about it, bear in mind it is RHD, did they even make RHD cars in poland, you may know better than me. I can promise though that when the car was sold in november last year it was being sold by the ferrari guy with the showrrom and now it is being sold by a dude in Birmingham, probably the one who bought it from the showroom.
The car is awesome though and he states in his reply to me via ebay that it has never been painted and will come with a paint technicians report to prove this, im going to look at it later and will check the chassis plates and stickers from factory etc.
-
thanks for posting the flickr picture, you can clearly see the suspension is not standard and seller reply said the car comes with 2 sets of wheels one in steel and also alloys, anyway it seems to defo be the same car. going to have a look in an hour so i will report back.
ps this is not the car that was featured in practical classics it was a white/cream bambino and was around june 2009, i did stand and read the article in the showroom and it was recognised by PC, they seemed to know a lot about it.
-
It does look nice.
Make sure you lookup how to tell country of manufacture from the vin (it is in the boot (front) under the wiper mechanism .
All 126's built after 1979 were made in Poland, regardless of specification or intended market.
The interior suggests it was originally a brown, plastic bumper car.
I just posted a photo of this very car before it was a special edition .
I am sorry about ranting, but I really don't want to be the one who has to explain all this to the next owner.
Marc
-
Are you sure it was practcal cassics? I went through every edition through 2008-2010. There were no 126's in 2009 that I could see.
I sent the seller the same picture!
-
It will be great to hear what the car is like. I am sure the owner bought the car as a Bambino. There was a guy in London making Bambinos >:(
The only company in England making them. I remember my conversation with him very well.
I think the car may be one of his, official Bambinos ::)
As Marc says have a look at the Vin, although blank Vin plates sadly are very cheap to buy. I once nearly bought an Abarth 126 one for my last 126.
It will be interesting to know what engine mods have been carried out.
I am suprised the car has been dry stored for the last 11 years but the photo of the car on the road was in 2009 without any of the official Ferrari bits.
-
The seller might do best by joining this club and working with us to get him the best price honestly.
-
I found another Ferrari 126
http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page/105650/1981-fiat-126/
It was owned by a former F1 driver too :P
But not the same registration number.
-
Just got back, firstly the owner is totally innocent, he is just selling it from the descrition of when he bought it, he is a really nice guy. secondly the car is italian and has all chassis plates and stickers in italian, and handbooks in italian, the paint is all original (i worked as a painter for 7 years) apart from the front panel which was painted due to stone chips, the chrome bumpers look original, most importantly it goes like a mad thing, i have owned 3 126s and this is much quicker especially in the mid range. The only problem i can find is the ride is very hard although it goes rounds bends really good.
he is taking a big loss on the car as he paid a lot more for it and its got to be one of the cleanest cars i have seen for a long time, dispite orgins of ferrari etc, i can only think it was built in 79 or 80 and left unregistered or reg in another country, also im pretty sure i have never seen a RHD polish built car has anyone got any idea if that is right or not.
-
Ask the owner exactly what engine mody have been done.
DEFO NOT BEEN PAINTED....
-
Mine is Polish built and right hand drive. The colour code stickers on mine are also in Italian, there are no other stickers on mine. Think the only differences on the vin are numerical.
If the VIN begins with:
SU-SZ Poland
ZA-ZR Italy
F for FIAT
Unless it is right hand drive, then for some reason the vin indicated Italian. My VIN is ZFA126A0003036461, which suggests Italian, but as it is a BIS, which only went into production in 1987 so the tooling for the rear end never existed in Italy, it must be Polish. This is probably for legal or tax reasons, the RHD's would have been shipped Via Italy I should Imagine.
I was hoping you would find the model year on the VIN, that would have solved the Italian Polish conundrum. Saying that, mine has a 0 for the year marker, which is apparently not used.
-
Mine is a RHD Polish made car.
Is the guy going to have a look at the forum?
-
Jamiegt, if you are so interested in this car shouldn't you be trying to put us off? Also where did you take it for a drive, the tax ran out in October!!!
Just found some more info. The chrome bumpers were only used on the base models in 82/83, the special models http://www.bvac.org.uk/Gimg019.htm had plastic bumpers. Never knew that before, thought all chrome bumpers for those years were retrofit.
Is this the one you saw before Dajwid? If it is we only have to find the beige one and we have all three!!

You can see where the plastic bumper mounts were!!! 1999 plates and manufacture, first registered 2010!!.

interesting stuff, im still unsure of wether im interested in the car to be honest, it sounds silly but i really want an italian car, everything seems to point to this being italian but you guys sound like you know best, i forgot to say i checked the sills and it has never been welded but it has been kept indoors for a long time.
-
i remember the copy magazine feature was in the "ebay interesting cars" section, it was a long thin column, i thought it was a 2009 but may have been 08 it has been a long time since i read it.
-
got to say the shift system works really well, i drove a 355 a few years ago that belonged to my boss and it felt really similar, not like any 126 i have ever driven.
it was really inspiring but im just not sure i want to spend that much on a car. i think if you guys saw it you would forgive all it is truly lovely.
-
Have a look at wikipedia fiat 126.
-
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
as you can probably see here there is a lot of talk about this car, if you got the car you would catch everyone's eye on here
To be honest the fiat 126 gods on here say its not italian, and as I've read a lot about 126s and have two of them I do belive them , nearly 3,000,000 Polish 126s on the road and it's the right age someone could have stuck made in Italy on it, too much of a risk for that price I think.
For the price it's going for you could get a fiat 500 project, but it's not upto me if you want it get it, we don't want to keep seeing this car on eBay
Good luck

^ that one is LHD. The eBay one is RHD? I guess the second one made has the steering wheel in the middle.....

I've only gone and found the elusive cream bambino feature article in Practical classics Feb 2010!!!
It is in Ebays most watched section. :D
It says
"Fiat 126 Bambino
Sold for £2050. High price explained by one owner, 28,500-mile history, tuned engine and suspension, plus cavity wax from new."
One small photo from side, similar vinyls on side of car, but they say Abarth, not Bambino. It also has an Italian Flag on the door.
I just wasted hours looking for that, it's not even a classified ad!!! It's only in there because it sold for an unusually high amount of money!!!
This must mean that our 126 and myself had a centre spread feature article in classic car weekly April 2011!!! I'm going to bed. In a sulk :-X :-X :-X
-
And it's a FL made after 1985.

Unless I'm mistaken they are mini bumpers. You can see the front image has a cover section, this is where the bumper has a few inches chopped off to match the width of the fiat. When you see it close up, you can see the bumper curve doesn't match the body curve and it looks worse. I seem to remember another 126 being sold with mini bumpers on Ebay a few years ago I think it was a white late aircooled masquerading as an early aircooled.
Interesting to hear the ('bambino') car goes like stink. I wouldn't have expected that part to be correct. Stiff suspension is a good sign some money has been spent on it. I would still be dubious of the seller, if he's making a loss selling it at that price, what questions did he ask when he bought it? seems odd to me, but then I'm a very cynical person!
Still, it allegedly being a 'bambino' edition still annoys me!
-
Its a wrong one , goes like stink your having a laugh. If it was correct there would be photos of the engine bay. The guy is trying to pull a fast one imho
-
Jamiegt must be the seller :P
-
Jamiegt must be the seller :P
I did wonder that myself :D
-
thanks guys but the seller is indian, and about 45 lol, it really was very quick, i know your all not happy about the car but it is really nice, there is no denying that.
the seller is not a forum type to be honest, he is more old skool.
-
We all seem to agree that it looks nice, what has annoyed us is not the car, it is the sellers insistence that it is something it isn't. As long as you know that (which is what this thread is for) and you still want the car, go for it, if you are happy to pay the money that is fine. As long as your decision isn't made by the super special ferrari edition, ex F1 driver owned, ex pc feature car, Italian built bullocks!!!
Marc
-
I do wish people would really listen to the experts. After all, that is what a club like this is for.
The car is NOT Italian, and it is NOT any special edition. Marc and the others have provided more than enough evidence to suggest this, or at least cast doubt over the cars originality. Yes it looks nice, and yes it may drive nicely but it is not the car that is being advertised!
Ane even in its current condition, it is not worth that amount of money.
The seller is trying to re-coup his loses, because he got ripped off when he bought it. If he had joined the club, then maybe he wouldnt be in this position either.
I don't want to see this back on eBay again, and I don't want to see some poor sod shell out loads of money on it, for what is effectively a couple of ferrari stickers.
Rant over.
Tom
-
Could the sale of the car be classed as fraud? Someone should contact eBay.
-
eBay have been contacted several times, by several of us, but it was not removed. Also the seller has also been advised by several people, but has chosen to ignore all emails.
Tom
-
whoever buys it has a case to get his money back no problem. The claims are untrue , As for the guy to be old skool and 45 years of age your having a laugh. Can we have engine pics please. If there were such a car for sale I would be interested if it was genuine , This is not imho
-
The car is about as Italian as Lech Walesa and the Ferrari bling is not to my taste, but it looks to have been in good shape when that 2009 photo which Marc found was taken - is it just me or does it look a bit lower than standard in that picture? Otherwise, it looks to have been a standard base model (same vintage as eg my car and Lina's car, which both have chrome bumpers, vinyl seats etc. - and of course are Polish built), other than the hub caps which are from a later air-cooled (anorak alert...).
It's a shame that neither the seller nor our recently joined member who has apparently seen and driven the car seem able to shed any light on the advertised mechanical modifications or the chassis number. I wonder why?
Anyway, no doubt it will be back on eBay again soon and the fun can start all over again...
-
TMF123 found the photo.
-
And it's back but this time with pictures of the engine bay and chassis plate...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-126-1983-RARE-ITALIAN-RED-BAMBINO-EDITION-34-000-MILES-NOT-FIAT-500-/330903234390?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4d0b5ea756
Can't quite read the full VIN number but the plate is otherwise the same as mine. Engine looks clean but standard head/carb etc.
-
How comes the car sells then is up for sale again?
I cant spot anything '650CC WITH ENGINE UPGRADE'. unless he means the new exhaust brackets and fuel filter showing in the picture.
I must say I am really disappointed by the engine bay picture. The car really did look clean, that has never been in question, but the engine bay for a £3000 Fiat 126 looks very tired. Heat shield is missing and signs of rust. It would have only taken a morning of cleaning to get the engine bay looking pristine.
As for the VIN, sadly can't read the vin plate (£5 on Ebay). Something still seems a little strange with the year, I still say the car is Polish.
-
I agree that the car must be Polish. It's far too late to be an Italian build.
There seems to be some confusion about VIN codes - the ZFA code doesn't mean that the car was built in Italy, it's just the code allocated to Fiat generally. I've got a copy of a FIAT advisory note issued in 1981 which confirms this, will try to work out how to post it up.
My car is definitely a Polish build but has a ZFA code (stamped onto the shell on the driver's side of the boot floor as well as on the VIN plate). The VIN plate and colour code sticker are in Italian but that doesn't mean it was built in Italy...
-
I think it says Made in Poland on the VIN plate of that 126 as the Italian ones look different.

My car is also Italian according to the VIN, I think that they were probably shipped through Italy and given the ZFA vin for tax purposes. Not being found by the VIN checker isn't really proof of anything.

Post some pictures, I'd be interested how its changed
