jesus christ richard!!!!!!!!!!!   £40??? you might as well crush it if it was worth that  :???:  , its worth alot more. The primrose colour makes it rare, its hard to find a primrose colour with good body work.

I would speak to david "126cab" he has just bought a mint one same colour, he will be able to tell you more.

regards and hope your well Lee

ebay has already pushed BIS prices up. before it a 126 BIS was worth virtually nothing, they were regularly offered to me for free! a mate was given a red one about 4 years ago, it was absolutely mint and was on the road. to be honest, although the colour is rare a BIS thats in bits is worth whatever you can get for it! its a good thing ebay has bumped up the value, but i reckon as word spreads around about the Bis problems, they will again become cheap cars, at the moment people just think its a cheap runabout. hardly anyone outside this club in the know has any love for them, even Fiat specialists arent keen, I know one local place that wont touch them any more, aircooled and 500 yes but he says the Bis is too much hassle to bother with!

see i a dissagree with that Barry, (but completly understand were you are coming from) half the people out there see a BIS and immediatly think 126, many dont know which is aircooled or water cooled.

I spoke to a member who joined at xmas, he said he wouldnt touch an aircooled, mainly due to the fact the BIS is a hatchback, with a nice boot.

If you stuck an aircooled bootlid on, people would be none the wiser. The poor reliability is largely down to the owner dont you agree? and if looked after well, can be as reliable as the aircooled.

a 126 is a 126, and the BIS is just a continuation of the excellent aircooled!!

gotta agree with you

at the end of the day the only reason they would have changed to liquid cooling is because they thought it was better, still a 126 at the end of the day.

theirs nothing wrong with a bis, its usualy people not maintaining them correctly then they run into problems such as head gasket, if the motor is serviced regularly and correctly they are just as reliable as any other car i have had aircooled and the water cooled and for me the water cooled scores best all round in both reliability and practability. the water cooled engine is a super engine and if looked after will last years.

ps, yes the yellow primrose colour is the rare one and the best colour to have i have just purchased another mint bis in this colour. if i was you m8 i would try and hang on to it.

Yep, the primrose is by far my fav colour of all the BIS's and yours looks like its in great condition, you will kick yourself later down the line if you sell her. I agree about the reliability but i think they are often driven by none enthusiast who dont realise they have to be driven with a little more care than similar car of the same age.

126 cab. Did you buy that beauty that was on ebay about 5 days ago? that was primrose colour?

Got to stick my ore in chap's as you may know they never stopped making the aircooled,I like them both (the water cooled has a sweet idle note).Another point about owner servicing, don't forget the design can trace it's root's back to '57 when the rest of us (well not me I was'nt around until 71) were driving oxford's and pop's(grease nipple.....what's that :D ).I know bloody apprentice's that don't know what a grease nipple is(my god i'm turning into an old fart).

Well lucky me, I've a lovely yellow air cooler (three wheels and no suspension though). I don't think you need to worry about the "word spreading" about BIS's head gaskets and other realiability problems - they're famous for it, and I really do think it s because of a design problem (nothing is perfect). For example, the centrifugal oil filter has killed a lot of BIS's because its a pain to get to and a lot more like work than a throw-away one. Rot consigned most FSMs to the scrapyard after only a few years despite their indestructable engines. Its a good point that the aircooler's engine goes back to the 50s -  when a car owner was expected to remove the cylinder head and decoke every year or two. These days, car owners don't even check the oil from one service to the next, let alone change it. This is certain death to an old engine so the 126 was way out of tune with the Western car market long before it ceased production, and was primarily being made as an Eastern Bloc budget car (with Eastern Bloc budget steel).

On prices,  Fiat 500 has a very high price (£2k-£4k) because it is a 'design icon', like the Beetle - though there are plenty of both about. Most old cars don't reach anything like that so the 126 is doing really well being sold for more than a few hundred quid. The Fiat 600 (which I think is even better looking than the 500) is worth a lot less than a 500 despite its rarity in the UK (50 or so rhd?) - because it isn't as popular. The 600 Multipla is only worth the same as a 500 - it is almost unheard of in the UK these days and is arguably much more of a design landmark (the first MPV). My point being...? Well, I don't think there is any rational rhyme or reason to the value of old cars other than what people are prepared to pay for them, so maybe one day the 126 will be worth £10K? My hunch is that the early ones will become quite popular but the later ones will never be worth much, simply because of the trim - the later ones have lost that vinyl and metal frugal feel that pre-1970s cars had that makes them really distinct. One of the real differences between my 500 and 126 is the interior - the 500 ('69) feels like a 60s car, the 126 (1982) could easily be from anywhere between the mid70s to now, other than the noise and smell, of course! The trim, plastic bumpers, etc lack distinctiveness/character?. Still love it though, and very few cars are worth buying as an investment anyway, unless you are paying big money and are happy just to mothball it. And where's the fun in that?

You hit the nail on the head Paul however,my '95 has a retro style interior with vinyl seat's and basic trim it's even fitted with a steering box instead of a rack for that authentic old school feel  .
