the Fiat 126 weekend: 5-7th July 2019 - DE55 4BP
« on: March 20, 2019, 10:47:42 PM »
After last year's modest success (which I believe turned out to be the largest gathering of 126s in the UK that year) I'm once again making preparations for a weekend meet-up this summer!

Road runs, camping with our cars, perhaps another treasure hunt, parts market and no doubt seeing the local sights of the Peak District (a vote was held and last year's central location won again).

Click here to see how last year's event went!

It's a book-yourself-in arrangement. If you want to come, simply go to their website or phone them up and book yourself a tent space! If you're really quick there's also some comfy wood cabins.

LOCATION:
Riddings Wood Caravan & Camping Park
Bullock Lane, Riddings, Derbyshire DE55 4BP

TIME:
from late afternoon on Friday 5th July
till late morning of Sunday 7th July
(Saturday is the main day of activities, if you can only attend for a while)

WEBSITE:
Campsite booking
Event page

Once you've booked, I'd appreciate if you could let me know if you're coming! Or better yet, indicate you're attending in the corresponding Facebook event. This helps me anticipate numbers and plan the activities.

looks like a wonderful weekend.  might be too far to drive the little fiat up from London but might try and come up without it.

Just stick some earplugs in and you'll be fine ;)

oh it's not that.  I love the music my little engine makes.  would never consider trying to plumb in a stereo even.

basically being away on holiday already from 19 june to 4 july means this isn't really doable.  I would feel a bit sad turning up without my little car.  but will keep a look out for the 2020 meet!

I went last year without mine: Was just as fun being a passenger in a 126 treasure hunt.
Come on, you know you want to  :P

Only a month to go now, will we perhaps see more club representation this year?

Just over a week to go and we've nearly doubled since last year's event  :D Hopefully we can reach 10 if I can convince anyone here to come along. Think there might also be a 125p!

You don't ofcourse need to be staying over to join in, so if you're nearby or fancy a day trip next Saturday, don't miss out!

Well the weekend was a bit chaotic: we had low numbers due to unforeseen personal priorities, an MOT failure the day before, a breakdown on the way, and some 126s still needing work. There were also a few no-shows due to the downpour on Saturday morning but otherwise the weather was brilliant.

We ultimately ended up with four 126s, but it was good to see folk still turn up in normal cars.

This year the aircooled team took the limelight, since both BIS cars attending had problems. Mine broke down on the way (started only using one piston, hopefully it's just a dodgy ht lead) and the BIS that was there had some quirky fuel problems on our road run.

Er let's see...
  • BBQ on the Friday evening with some Polish sausages.
  • A first series 126 returned this year, having literally sat for a year we didn't expect it to work, but it did flawlessly.
  • The winner of last year's Golden Piston showed up briefly and got free pizza, but kept the Golden Piston as we didn't do a treasure hunt this time.
  • On the Saturday morning we went to a nearby car event in a car park full of sports cars and flashy stuff. The 126 got a lot of attention parked at the entrance next to a ferrari.
  • At said event, an eccentric YouTuber filmed the 126 and interviewed the owner... awaiting his upload lol
  • One of the attendees brought his professional camera kit and drone and did a bit of filming
  • Later in the morning another aircooled rolled up. A late eighties RHD, impressively styled in dark blue and gold. The engine was mint and the interior looked comfy. It even had an engine start/stop button!
  • We went a road run as mentioned
  • Went and had dinner at 'spoons then headed back to the campsite and chilled a bit. At this point with the lower numbers the 126s headed home
  • Not long after another aircooled showed up, the guy had travelled 200 miles up from Gatwick! He didn't think he was able to attend but did in the end, unfortunately a little too late, be he stuck around the campsite with us who were still there

So it was ok, unfortunately there's only so much you can do with 3 or 4 cars! But I think this year demonstrated that it was more about the community rather than the activities. It's still odd, for me at least, seeing other 126s in person and actually speaking to other 126 drivers who know what you know and other interesting things. And although there were only 4 cars in total there were 13 people in total. We might try again in a month or two!

Would be good to see more Club members; so far it's been me, ChrisDeVille and if she weren't on holiday Lina would have been there this year. Maybe next time!

brilliant.  many many thanks for the write up.  still sounds like a completely amazing event.  and so much of what you did is right up my street.

and I love your comment about it still just being amazing to see even just one other 126.  I am lucky in that there is a fellow 126 owner in Hackney and I frequently see there lovely little car parked in the street.

and people driving 200 miles to get there - that is epic.

I will try real hard to get to the one next year.  And will keep an eye out for anything else that is happening.

Good times
